Hi. I'm glad you liked my article. It's been a great 1-year journey of discovering the superiority of linux for me and I like macpup a lot!runtt21 wrote:http://life-sucks.org/switch-to-linux/? ... h-to-linux

I like to use it to clean up the odd win-blows machine of some desparate person whose laptop has blue-screen-itis.
Still, I don't recommend it as a fisrt choice to newcomers, they need something like Ubuntu that will make their lives as easy as possible so that they won't go back to proprietary fascist software.
By the way, I used fedora early on. Macpup crushes fedora in usabililty, features, ease of use, looks, ect...
I'll keep in touch with the forum. There's lots of useful info here. I hadn't seen it until yesterday.
Dean.

Hello runtt21,
I am in the process of making a specialized Macpup for my best friend who I have partially converted to Puppy Linux. He was a Windows user who has recently moved to Ubuntu. I recommended a couple pups for him to try and he likes Macpup because of the extra bling of your themes and the E17 window manager.
Right now I am in the process of remastering Macpup 5.2.8 for him with the following additions:
- ATI driver preinstalled
- defaults-chooser (by ScOttman)
- startmount
- the latest firefox
- VLC Media Player
I don't have a burnt CD of Macpup because I install most puplets with my usual Linux-in-Windows method by extracting the ISO and adding a menu entry into the grub4dos menu.lst
I wanted to do the remaster without the burnt CD by mounting the ISO image. However, when I clicked on the ISO file to mount it, I got an error message. I was trying to mount from a folder in the /usr/mnt/home drive, labelled as sda1. Please see attacthed pic.
Upon further investigation, I noticed that the same thing happens for me in Puppy 5.2.8 as well as Dpup Exprimo 5.X.7 and my own Slickpup 5.2.5. I guess I can always burn Macpup to CD so that I can remaster, but I was wondering if you or anyone out there knows of the solution to get puppy to mount an iso by clicking on it?

I just tried to do a click to mount on a .iso . Running mp528 I was able to mount the mp525.iso just by clicking on it. I had the .iso on a separate usb flash drive. You may need to move the .Iso outside of /mnt/home to a different place.

Firefox beta-channel not OK?
Macup 528 includes a firefox version 7 beta.
Indicated that older computers will crash, unstoppable enemies (murderers) killed(?)process signal.
exactly Hungarian: megállíthatatlan gyilok folyamat.
I suggested earlier, use the 6.0.1 version of the update release channels - the problem disappeared.
The release channel with no problem 7.0.1 updated version, and that there was no trouble.

I have no problems with the beta version, but your info is good to know. Maybe I will switch to official releases in my future puplets.

You should take macpup 528 for a spin.... And yes the clock is sitting on a shelf. You can take it off the shelf and put it on the desktop and move it around anywhere. I keep it on a shelf so if someone wants the clock on only one desktop they can adjust the shelf settings to do that. If it is on the desktop it's on all desktops.

HI everybody !
I am using firefox 7 in macpup528 .
There is one thing disturbing me a lot .
If i am scrolling and switching fast through websites ,sometimes mouse freezes
i am not able to restart xorg because keyboard does not respond .
Also cannot shutdown normally. i have to unplug my power supply to shutdown. Quite annoying. Dont know if this is Macpup-firefox specific.
Anybody else experienced it ?
What to do ?

fedora 13 was tough for a newcomer to linux. i couldn't get my printer running, it had a few annoying screen bugs, vlc and open office were in greek characters, and so on... i like macpup and ubuntu 10.04. E17 looks great. i like simplicity. i DON'T like the "unity" interface at all, nor gnome 3. i'm sticking with macpup and ubu 10.04.3 on different machines. enlightenment is so simple and elegant, i'm not sure why it hasn't caught on. that's the opinion of a 1-year linux user and convert.runtt21 wrote:We support our pup's here cause we keep close ties with the puppylinux community. thanks for the links, i bookmarked them. i'm into learning everything solo now so i bought a python book to learn programming. after careful consideration, i figured py was the best choice to learn first. i'm using beginning python using 3.1 and 2.6 by payne. great book, in my opinion. i checked the pdf first, before ordering. the author DESERVES the money, i think, so i purchased that sucker.
programming/linux is my new hobby.
cheers.
