I have seen a few machines that won't start a Live CD that uses GRUB as the bootloader. I suspect that it's a BIOS issue. (Most CD's use isolinux as the bootloader.)

However, you could always use another Puppy to extract the core files from the Macpup ISO and do a manual frugal install.

The CD I burned has the 11 files that is shown in

http://hardkap.net/forums/topic/forum-issues

isolinux.bin is one of those files!

I have a frugal install of 3.01 on hda4 so I thought, rename any of those files that may conflict and copy the files from the CD across.

Not so easy. I get input/output errors when trying to copy macpup_528.sfs and vmlinuz. Hmm!

An update to my previous post.

I checked the md5sum of the iso and it was correct. Burned another CD and it verified as OK.

I am using macpup to post this.

That looks to me like grub failing to find the kernel
Try checking the kernel line in menu.lst, or see if the files are in a sub-directory...?

Puppy 3.01 uses older .sfs version . Can't handle newer .sfs's . isolinux.bin is included in the .ISO so the remaster script will work. I decided not to customize that.

Yes I'm Aware of PuppyLuvrs MultiPup CD / DVD Creator in Fact You'll Notice My Presence in that Forum Thread, But ideally wot I Really want is a way of Booting from Raw isos on the Fly ( WithOut eXtracting them ), from USB Flash Drive.

Maybe as Aitch has Suggested Loopback Mounting will do this? But I've been Sum wot Distracted of late Maphia Matters ( ie. Family ) & I'm Still Reading ( Which I'm Real Slow @ ), Researching & eXperimenting...

But Any Other Suggestions Certainly Welcome!

Hi runtt21
Installed new version to Usb stick
After attaching mixer modul to shelf and modifiing alsamixer and retrovol settings before downloading-saving...everything worked .
After new boot e17 crashed or mixer modul no longer on shelf.
Also tried to restart alsawizard ,could not make it work after new boot.
Using the mixer-module is ruining my alsa settings .
Anyone else found similar problems ?

Backi , start over with a new save file. Unload the e mixer module before you save After you boot the save file first time download and install the revert-01.pet form the test folder on my macpup page. Reboot and then adjust alsa. I think our pups don't like you any more dude, You have had problems with the last few.Sorry.

Macpup528

#394 Post by Barburo »

Hi
I'm new to Macpup. I haven't read all the way through the 25 pages on this thread so apologies if this query has already been answered. Installed the latest Macpup528 from your download mirror.
Firstly - wow it's fast. I had a vanilla install of Racy pup which was also quick but I guess running in memory really helps. My Acer Aspire laptop has twin Intel U4100 CPUs with 4 gigs memory so there's plenty of headroom.

I used Quickpet to download chrome browser which I have been using quite a lot - I love the sync feature so that I have essentially the same browser on all my desktops (about 10 or so if you count all the distros and derivatives and WinXP for my wife and compatibility sometimes!).

The sync feature in chrome just hangs - I can navigate to most pages I (only got "aw snap" for the chrome store) but no sync.
Any similar experiences or advice to offer?
B.

I don't use chrome so I can't say for sure. But Firefox keeps all of it settings ,bookmarks and stuff in /root/.mozilla . If you can find where chrome keeps it stuff you can copy the file into macpup and have all of your "stuff".
