does anyone get pBurn to ever work in a laptop?

Audio editors, music players, video players, burning software, etc.

does anyone get pBurn to ever work in a laptop?

#1 Post by belham2 »

Hi guys,

I've have always historic rotten luck with pburn, or puppy's included "burnISO2cd". Both programs, across any puppy, just eat & waste new discs like nothing else.

I've tried laptop-built-in CD/DVD players, and external USB cd/DVD players. And I've tried different CD/DVD disc manufacturers and the same thing.

What can it be? Here is an example, using 700mb CD with an external USB player that works across all my other Linux distributions (from Manjaro/Fedora to Debian to Ubuntu).

Here's the log I get, and a pic follows of where it stops: Thank you in advance for anyone looking at this and can see what is going on (this happens in Tahr, Xenial, Dpups, etc----pBurn & burnISO2cd just eat all different mftr discs no matter what cd/dvd players I use):

Just rarely entered this just a very few times much earlier in Lucid.

My last CD burnt with pBurn is appr. 5 weeks ago. My Puppy is Tahr based, 6.0.2.

Laptop optical drives seem to be different from desktop optical drives. Burniso2cd has never failed to make a good DVD and I've had pretty good luck burning DVDs and Blu-Ray disks with Pburn, in my desktop -- until the last time I tried to burn a Blu-Ray disk. I don't know why it wouldn't work. I was using Quirky Werewolf. I didn't have time to try to figure it out, so I put the data on a flash drive instead.

Any of the warnings posted at the bottom of the first post apply to you?
Pburn

See if you are doing what is required to not have this.
It is not recommended to run other heavy applications (or powersaving/screensavers) while burning, as this can cause buffer under-runs if your PC was not able to allocate enough time to processing the burn. You will then have a useless disc. Choosing a burn speed that is too high, or CPU-priority that is too low, could also cause buffer under-runs.
Not all older drives can "see" beyond the first session. Few DVD-ROM units are capable of DVD-R multiborder playback and even fewer support DVD+R multisessioning. In other words your burner might be the only unit in your vicinity that can access data in the different sessions
.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Thinkpads have optical drives? Or did you use a USB optical drive?
