Sub_title: Suggestion

I wonder if your name choice may be keeping dev's away...?
Are you open to changing it?

Maybe something subtle like adding 'cat' - PussyCat Linux.
It matches your website, and it's definitely more family friendly. (Instantly broadens appeal to a much larger potential testing base.)

Pussycat wikipedia says

Pussycat is a common term for a cat.

Pussy wikipedia says

Pussy is an English word meaning:

* Cat
* The human female genitalia, for the slang term related to genital anatomy.
* Pejoratively, cowardice or weakness as an insult in general

So the name should be Pussycat Linux. Smile

Edit but to be consistent with Puppy Linux it should refer to a Cat puppy so them maybe are referred to as kitten?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitten
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitten_%28disambiguation%29

in ordinary language????? would become KittyCat Linux?

Edit II

I used to be everywhere. Now I do my best to only post on things that I know enough or on things I want to know and before that I posted on things I knew nothing so a slight improvement. Sorry.

I second SouthPaw's suggestion.
Actually, I initially delayed getting into Puppy for about a year 'cos of the inevitable problem with what you say about the collection of contributors' offshoot distros - "Nice, er...Puppies"?. "Puplets" (or "pupplets") is an awful-sounding replacement but in this PC-sensitive phase we're going through, necessary. I don't mean to be prudish, just prudent. Thought your earlier posts on renaming your site absolutely hilarious, btw!
On with re-evolving the Puppy Mill Smile

EDIT: Nooby beat me to it (that bloke is everywhere!). Probably better Feng-shui to go with PC than "P"

EDIT 2: (In retrospective response to Nooby above). No apologies necessary Nooby - you is da glue and your input on these forums really valuable to keep perspective for us technological troggs. sickgut - maybe "EarthaKitten" Linux?

hi arrf
in the wifi thing you may need to wicd (click on the network option on the desktop then widc will apear as a icon on the bottom right taskbar) tell it what wifi card to use, usually wlan0 in preferences, then click refresh to see networks.

Pussy contains all the drivers that a full debian install has, generally more than Puppy contains.

I dont understand the dd issue and the partitions problem, there isnt a seccond partition in the image only a fat32 partition. the image is only 375mb in size, so only 375mb will be written to the first part of the sdcard and this is one partition.

the project reminds me of:
Pussycat SHED or GALPon Minino
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=60557&sid=2f3d18f227fa9f89d6b2fde732af89cd
but it had "mut2 (1.0.0.1156) of origin Puppy Linux 2008"
http://minino.galpon.org/wiki/doku.php?id=caracteristicas
It used Debian packaging system (. Deb). and is 100% debian as well.

Maybe you could add mut2 too? Very Happy

ok wlan0 in the preferences tab got wifi connected. but temporary external glich may have resulted in no pages being able to load.
something about partition not being on a boundary could that be the partition problem. gparted wont start but info above from the other meowthing in that folder.
wrote some notes with a leafpad to the pussy partition folder but it disappeared when viewed from puppy. so that is why this info is sketchy.
how to mount partitions? how to take screenshot?
over all has definite promise. is fast. but is not intuative need to read all the instructions.
Perhaps a pussy forum at your site or a ready made third party forum elsewhere to remove the barbarian cultural influence.

Yes the polite thing is to let the Dev of a thing to decide on the name.

But if that name makes it almost impossible for a lot of person to make use of it then one can in a friendly humorous way tease the name maker a bit and he change it to KittyCat Linux whatever. Smile

I find it an unfortunate choice of name as well, and will not even try it based on that alone.

Hey, Sc0ttman and all concerned with "Pussy Linux", how about just pronouncing the pussy "PC"?

PC Linux is what the pussy is essentially: A squash file that can be expanded for hard drive install, not really set up for frugal, a hierarchy of multi-user ownerships and permissions, union file system layering and so on. I don't see much that is distinctively puppy.

There is already a pclinux.com website. It has a forum, not as good as puppy's, but few are. They have debian's synaptec set up to download .debs from the debian repos, to update and round up dependencies.

I apologize if I am not PC and not pussyfooting to not step on toes, but this pussy looks like a debbie kitten, not a pup dog to me.
