If you can, please swap out pfbpanel for this one from mrd. Just gives the option of eight launchers instead of four. Just a tiny re-write, does not introduce any bugs etc.

The HP print/scan driver packages need updating. Or maybe remove them completely from the repo, since there are always new versions coming out, which are available in the forum.

Is there a known solution to the no-hard-drive-flash-drive booting bug?

Also, the problem with flash drive installs and the latest version of syslinux.

Is it OK to make these suggestions without going through the PLUG?

Pburn and Pmusic 1.x.x will not work properly with ffmpeg-0.8 because of changed output format. Pmusic 2 will use ffmpeg 0.8 as its backend.

EDIT: Pburn seems to work ok with ffmpeg-0.8

Isn't that fixed in Instant Update 001?

Soon, I hope?
I just played an mp3 in 1.6.6 with ffmpeg 0.8. 1.8.3 also.

Better safe than sorry. I think the hard drive missing has a fix in a script. We will look.

dir2pet and cosmetics

#10 Post by maxerro »

I think dir2pet from Lucid525 created those uninstallable PETs. Package Manager would remove them from the list when uninstalling, but package contents remained on disk. This is a minor issue, but for someone who likes to create PETs that way it is a bit annoying. Or maybe it was some other puplet - someone should prove me wrong.

Can we make a consensus on the VOLUME buttons and make those keybindings a standard in the new versions of Puppy? When Puppy first starts and those aren't working I feel like half of the system is missing.

Would like to see mrxvt instead of urxvt as the standard terminal. This is more in the cosmetics department... Makes a better first impression.

Well it's about time!

playdayz,

Your diving back into the storm. Hold your nose.
The waters may get deep and stormy.

Thanks very much for diving back in!!

Well you asked. :)

Booting from USB when no internal hard drive is installed bug

Still need some way of identifying that openbox is the default window manager,
so people stop trying to adjust the window manager by running JWM config.

Pupcontrol->settings tab->Window manager settings
Auto adjusts for this by only running the config program that works for
the window manager that is being used.
Maybe just remove window manager config programs from main menu, so they can only be run
through PupControl. (Setup icon on desktop)

Fixing any of the bugs reported in the Lucid Puppy 5.2.5 bug topic would be nice for update.

This program needs reworked. Bug indentified here:

It's running on my old P3 test box with the basics working correctly on initial boot.FWIW, it doesn't load into ram on a box with 256 mb..... cannot remove the cd.

More testing......

Running live with save file and luci_260.sfs copied to the hdd. Using menu entry to switch from Openbox to JWM resulted in no wallpaper in JWM. Easy fix with Nathan's though.

I havent downloaded yet the latest alpha, but my thoughts and suggestions:

- guvcview is now in version 1.45. I have compiled it for my puppies
http://guvcview.berlios.de/

- Report-video-glx is now 0.4 version. Also tazocs sys info tool seems to provide nice overall info.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=69326
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=60462

- gtkdialog is under heavy development and new features are added. Barry Kauler has uploaded new version as pet and it is easy to download latest svn version and compile it.
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 294#538294

- yad should be added. It is small, about 70-80 k and at least stu90 creates new small nice gui apps with it almost every day.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 647#539647

- gparted is now in version 0.81. I have made a pet of it and it is quite easy to compile it.
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/

- Pschedule is now version 1.02

- Barry has uploaded p7zip package which has 7z which handles rpm and rar packages.
http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02319

- Shinobars sfs load on the fly 1.1 is great sfs loader on the fly. I have even compiled kernels using it. 1.1 version has one bug in the /etct/init.d/sfs_load script. It was noticed in Fatdog64 thread. The fix is easy. I have made fixed pet of it.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=64354
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 223#539223

- acpitool and acpid should be added so that laptop users can shutdown using power button and can suspend to ram. I have added xbindkeys and xbindkeys-config for extra keybindings so that more laptop buttons work. I keybinded multimedia buttons so that deadbeef works with them.

- rox-right-clicks extra package should be default. Pet extraction and all other goodies makes life much easier. Don570 has done splendid job by updating the package.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=67013

- busybox-1.17.2-1-w5.pet is the latest busybox compiled by Barry Kauler

Some of my thoughts add fat to the iso so I mostly just brainstorm here.

Also please consider RoxTerm - this is a excellent console termimal.
You can copy, paste, change colors, font size, etc from menu options available.

Look forward to testing this new distro

Just completed full install to ext4 partition on hard drive.
All items mention above, plus xchat have been installed and working with no problems.

Internet connection auto started when booted to hd install.

I will keep looking
