Can anybody tell me how to install the resynthesizer plugin for gimp 2.6.8?

You could try booting into RAM, then extracting resynthesizer.tar.gz, to your gimp plug-ins folder to see whether it works OK. I tried with gimp-2.7.1, and it's definitely in the menu but, being graphically challenged, have no idea if it's working or not!

You'll need Python too, I think.

Yes, when i tried it out, with pemasu's midnight puppy, I forgot that I hadn't installed the relevant devx, with python.

Following this resynthesizer tutorial, Whilst I was unsuccessful at erasing the text, I managed to mangle the moon to look like an asteroid!

Actually the source compiles easily. I've compiled the attached .pet on p412 and, whilst I haven't tested it with other pupversions, or gimp releases, I suspect it should work OK. The pet extracts to /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins, so if the gimp you're using has plugins in another location, you'll need to copy them there, or perhaps symlink will work.
