Cor Puppy Linux is evolving nicely

#1 Post by pixelblip »

Hi
I've just fired up Lucid 5.2.8.......
It's really nice. I think Openbox is a lovely looking WM. I like the minimise, maximise and close icons on the borders of the windows - they are nice and square and for once they got it right!

I often muck around with these things in Ubuntu / Puppy and never seem to get one I like..these are great and just feel really nice to click on!

It's really good for newbies as well....like all the messages on screen that explains this and that ( e.g. downloading Opera ). My nvidia thing worked first time....wow. Congrats here!

I am sure this has had discussion already - I think the only think that needs to be sorted is the wireless thingy. It needs to be simple like in Ubuntu or Linpus....new users really get scared by that Puppy wireless window.......I do appreciate though you can't keep lots of drivers.........but wireless is something everyone seems to have trouble with ( or used to in Linux).

Things I can think of for the future are things like a Time Machine Backup.......something simple...perhaps something that could even back up really easily over the web......and remote help built in incase we need to help newbies out over the internet with problems.

I am so impressed though. I started using Puppy I think about 4.11 so it's amazing to see how great it's become! It's a pleasure to use Opera and Openbox.....we all know this!

It''s certainly my OS of choice now.

Well done y'all!

pixelblip could you pardon an old man.

I know that young folks love to send text messages and that
them have come up with short spelling variation of proper English.

This Cor is that short for Core? Like in Tiny Core?

Or is it Nathan that came up with it? Okay I should check at the link
that Lobster provided.

What is it RobertS always tell us Noobs? "Always mind the Core."
"Take care to learn the Core" My poor memory. "Never mind the Core" :)
"Be cool, Get the Core" "Be Core with RobertS "

Oh, great, so Nathan F is active again. Woohoo :)
But he specifically said he's not building a rolling release Puppy...

nooby - "cor" is an exclamation, kind of like "wow". Although for all I know pixelblip may have meant something different.

Heheh thanks disciple , one know one are getting old when new words
are totally unknown and one wonder what are them talking about?

Urban dictionary usually have suggestions. like these

cor blimey

An expression of surprise or gratitude.
Cor blimey guvneh! Eis given me a monkey!

Haha I would not even be able to get what them say. Cockney accent.

Actually, "Cor Blimey!" is derrived from the middle-aged expression
"God, Blind Me!", used when someone saw something they shouldnt
have. Commonly used in expressions by upper-class brits, etc,
when in shock, suprised etc. mainly as a form of really stupid
exaggeration

cor

A slang word used by the British, often as employed by those
with a cockney accent. Meaning God. (Possibly "god damn" as
"cor blimey" is believed to be derives from "god, blind me.")

"Cor, wot a bloody wanker you are."

Translation: "God, what a fucking jerkoff."
or "God damn, you're a wack job."

Maybe I should spend the last years of my life trying to learn
Mandarin Chinese instead. English is too difficult. :)

I couldnt resist. My first thought of "cor" came from its latin word meaning. In latin cor means heart and you can easily translate it as core.

I noticed this thread because i wondered the use of latin in header.

pemasu that reminds me of a Professor in Latin languages at the Helsinki?
University he had radio programs on shortwave talking academic latin with
the listeners.

Him wanted all of EU to have Latin instead of English as the second language.

Others want Interlingua which is a simplified "Latin" to fill that role.
Interlingua is kind of cute. Much easier to understand than Esperanto and similar help languages.

Thanks Pemasu for the link to it. Sisu is a true word for it.
