WCMCommander-0.19

#1 Post by musher0 »

Hello everyone.

I recently discovered a file manager that is a bit different and may fill a need sometimes
when working with files.

Its name is WCMCommander, and it lives here. The features are detailed towards
the bottom of the page. In short:
mimic look-n-feel (including editor and shortcuts) of Far Manager
built-in terminal
built-in text editor with syntax highlighting
built-in text viewer
virtual file system (smb, ftp, sftp)
very fast user interface
It's been around for a couple of years. It is a twin-panel file manager.

What I like about it is that the columns in the right and left panels columns can be set to
different widths, independently. MidnightCommander does not offer that feature. It may
sound silly, but at times, IMO, a larger or narrower column can really help you organize
your files the way you need to.

Available here for the next 30 days:

Peculiarities about the compilation and pet:
-- It's a straight no-problem compilation through "make", once the source zip has been
downloaded from github and unpacked.

-- I did have to create a /usr/share/doc directory for it. But strangely, no man as available
in the source package.

-- MIT licence. Don't use WCM it if this is a problem for your ethics.

-- The source provides some DejaVu fonts that Puppy provides by default, so I replaced
the original fonts with symlinks to ours. I left the LiberationMono font that the author
included, because I have never seen any Puppy shipped ex-factory with a Liberation font!

Personal comment: I do not use this FM regularly, but on occasion, I have found it useful.

I've attached the tree of the pet as well as screen cap, plus the mandatory hashes.

I did a quick search for this FM on our board, and it seems that this is the first time
it has been brought to the Puppy World. So... feedback welcome.

BFN.

Please notice the differing organization of the left and right panels. In the middle, you see a small search window.
