Quickpet is nice, but I like downloading a .pet and saving them to another drive so I have them backed up.
yes it should give you the option to save to file, especially larger packages like browsers. and it should remember that you selected save packages, for the next time you go to use it.

True, but most of those tend to be some what out of date..

I try the .pet form first

For what it's worth, I run Flashblock in SeaMonkey 2.6.1 .....no problems.A hint, SeaMonkey uses a different version than Firefox.

I does not even show up in the add-ons search.

Edit

I found it here http://flashblock.mozdev.org/

Flashblock

#1065 Post by Snail »

Hi James C

I tried downloading Flashblock from the Seamonkey add-on manager and it isn't there. I found this site;

http://flashblock.mozdev.org/installation2.html#current

It has Flashblock 1.3.18. However, when I attempted to download and install, Seamonkey was extremely suspicious of it. The warnings were strong enough that I aborted the process.

is this a good site? If so, why is Seamonkey so sniffy about it?

Flashblock is a great app. I can't think why it is not included in the Seamonkey add-on site.

Same site where I get it and have had no problems here.Go there every time I do a new Puppy install. :)
For some unknown reason, to me anyway, it's not listed in the addons manager ......guess it's because it's a different version. Firefox 9 uses Flashblock 1.5.15.1 by the way.

When I google, it takes me to Mozilla's site and says "Not available for Firefox 2.6.1" so I guess that is why it does not show up.

I hope I am posting this in the correct place. I have a problem getting pcmcia cards to work with a Fujitsu e7010 laptop. This is a P4 1.8GHz with 1GB ram. I am using 528 update 002 frugal. I originally thought that this was a wifi card problem and posted here http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=74877. However, I have found that a usb2 card only works as usb1 and when I attempt to unmount them the machine locks up and has to be shut down with the on/off switch. The wifi card shows up as ath5k. Both the wifi card and the usb2 card work using 528 update 002 frugal on my old Toshiba Satellite 4200 which is P3 800MHz with 320MB ram. I have also tried with earlier versions of puppy including 4.2.1, 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2 as well as Slacko 5.3.1 with no luck. I did wonder about trying 528 update 004. Would this work? I tried installing XP and had to download pcmcia drivers from the Fujisu site but these cards did work after this. However, there seem to be no linux drivers and I do not know how to compile them for 528 anyway. I am wondering if anybody else has got 528, or perhaps another puppy, to work with a Fujitsu e7010 including pcmcia cards . As nobody replied to my previous post I would appreciate a reply to this one even if it is only to confirm that 528, or any other puppy, will not work with this machine.

Regards,

Ken.

What's changed in update 4?

#1070 Post by Barkingmad »

Hello

I've been "out of the loop" on Lupu for a while and find that things have got to update 4 from update 2 when I last looked!!

I've worked through most of this thread but can't seem to find what has been changed/fixed/improved over update 2 thus wheather it is worth applying to an install that seems to run well. Is there a changlog somewhere that I've missed?

Thanks for any pointers
Will

Barkingmad, The main difference is that Update 004 contains the hard won fixes for the disappearing usb sound problem. If your Update 002 is running well then there is no compelling reason to update. Thanks.

If there are programs that you like and use a lot (mainly Puppy programs) you might want to check and see if there are updates available for them. For instance, there is an update of PupControl And if you use Pmusic there is an upgrade to Pmusic 2.3.0 (listed in first message of this thread).
have a problem getting pcmcia cards to work with a Fujitsu e7010 laptop.
keniv, You might try asking tempestuous in this forum. There are lots of extra drivers there for 528. He has other threads for extra drivers for other versions of puppy. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=59000

Wary Puppy is the one that is targeted specifically towards older hardware. You might try that and then report if it doesn't work in the Wary bug thread.

Sorry to not be more help. You might try ttuuxxx's 2.14X since it also is good with older hardware.

Hello Playdayz

Thanks for that super fast reply.

As I don't use any USB sound devices I'll probably leave well allone unless there's anything else "fundimental" in the update .

Thanks again
Will

Yes, Flashblock from this site for Seamonkey 2.6.1. click to install 1.3.18, then you will need to click Install twice more but that is just Seamonkey being careful. I just did it and it works, blocks flash too ;-)

Well, just learned that installing "Lucid Puppy" on a computer is now referred to as "Lucidfication".

Can also be referred to as "Lupufied" .

I performed "Lucidfication" to my computer and it is now "Lupufied".
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

New usb_modeswitcher 1.2.2 and data base uploaded for lupu

#1075 Post by rerwin »

I have built a package for the newest version of usb_modeswitch and uploaded it to the same message as patch-7:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 173#595173

Please uninstall the older modeswitch package (1.2.1-20111023) before installing the new, although that is not actually necessary other than for neatness in the Package Manager's list.

Here are the notes from the developer:
New in 1.2.2:

Fix for bad bug bad bug preventing mode switch for devices using TargetClass
Improved logging in case of negative success check
Lots of new devices added:

Air FlexiNet/StrongRising, BandLuxe C339, Celot CT-680, Huawei E353, Haier CE682, LG L-02C LTE, LG SD711, LG L-08C, LG L-07A, I-O Data WMX2-U, Option GI1515, ZTE A371B, ZTE MF652 (two Variants).

Attention:
Minimum required parameter set has changed (resulting in smaller files); use only with program release >= 1.2.2 !!
UPDATE 1/22/2012: I have re-uploaded the package, with a correction to the waiting for modeswitch completion. You might see that it takes longer for a modeswitched modem to be "detected". But that also makes it more likely that a slow starter gets detected. The "connect" function might be delayed but should start after modeswitching is done. If it shows no modem detected at the start of a session, close it and try again after a minute or so.

UPDATE 1/24/2012: I have re-uploaded the "corrected' usb_modeswitch package because the data base got placed in the wrong subdirectory. It should be in /usr/share/usb_modeswitch. not /usr/usb_modeswitch. Thanks to playdayz for calling my attention to the error.

UPDATE 1/30/2012: Re-uploaded the usb_modeswitch package again, to add the latest rules file that supports the added modems. This was done after the eighth download of it. That fix will be part of the test iso. No need to replace it in your current puppy if you will never need to support the new devices.

Hello Playdayz

Thanks for your reply. Oddly enough the Toshiba on which 528 works perfectly is the older of the two machines. I will try you suggestions and hopefully I will get the pcmcia to work with the Fujitsu e7010 and 528. Thanks for all your work on 528. It's a great puppy.

Regards,

Ken.

Speaking of Flashblock and Seamonkey. I actually get more use out of Adblock Plus for Seamonkey I guess the ads bother me more than the flash content. It is the same deal as Flashblock, click Install 2 or 3 times.

keniv, I should also mention that we are preparing a Testing ISO of Lucid 5.2.8 that begins with Version 004 and adds a truckload of additional drivers, as well as some other things that *might* help. Rerwin has done the work loading the truck ;-)

Updates again

#1079 Post by Snail »

Never got any comment on my previous post asking about what updates were relevant to 004
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... start=1050

@rerwin Is it correct that the only one of your patches I currently require to be up to date is partch-7? Also, I cannot get my usb webcam/mike to get noticed by baconrecorder or MPlayer. It works fine with Skype and Guvcview handles the video side fine. Would your usb-modeswitch help?

Are these updates relevant to 3HD as well?

Sorry Snail, Update 004 is basically update 002 with shinobar's fixes for the usb disappearing sound problem. 003 was a regression in an attempt to solve the usb sound issue. Very soon there will be a "Testing ISO" with rerwin's patch-7, the latest usb-modeswitch, a large package of additional drivers from tempestuous, and some update programs such as PupControl. The Testing ISO will co-exist with 5.2.8.004.
