Add: it appears Slacko also has the problem. In fact, Slacko does not even show an icon of the DVD. I will tell 01micko in case he hasn't heard. I don't have a Wary install to test at the moment. I don't have any DVD-R disks either--does anyone know if they are affected or is it only DVD+R? And is it only if the DVD is made in Windows? Yes. It is only if the DVD is made in Windows.

IMHO it should be fixed if at all possible so Puppy users don't run into a problem--to me this is the same as being able to open docx documents.

playdayz

I just tried a DVD-R disk in Slacko 531(the same disk that I tried in 528-04) and although it does show an icon, when clicked on it will not mount.
This particular disk was made in Windows using Nero.

That is great, Pburn is fixed, and the amazing thing is the fix happened before the bug was reported. Zigbert must be gifted with future sight....

Leaves only Pmount to improve.....

You mean there is a Business section in PPM with no Business programs in it Question Confused Shocked Crying or Very sad Cool

Well, I will just take my business to some other operating system.
That is very sad. No support for those business types. Crying or Very sad

Playdayz,

We found the cause of the mounting problem. Aparently Pmount does not support UDF disk format (only ISO). Manual mounting works, the UDF support is in the 2.6.33 kernell.

Do you think it is worth to get Pmount fixed to improve 528 ?

See this thread:

Regards,

Volhout.

I have fixed that, using guess_fstype to check the filesystem type - UDF then works fine Very Happy

Sc0ttman,
is there a script we could put your fix into, in order to run it invisibly rather than having to open a terminal whenever a UDF DVD is put into a drive?

Thanks. This has a very integrated touch for a OOTB base system. I merely added PPM's SAMBA 3.61 and the system cruises the Internet and shares HDD files with my LAN devices and systems. (SAMBA User's Guide for Puppy528 is here.

This system is running totally from its DVD "Live media".
Great and simple.

Why did this thread move to the "derivatives" folder.

Puppy 528.004 is not a derivative, it is the one and only puppy mainstream. Saluki and Slacko don't work on my PC's.

528 is MAINSTREAM

Same question as Volhout.

The 'Powers that be', both Barry and PlayDayz, encourage Slacko as the mainstream Puppy for beginners with modern hardware. They'll need it if they have bought hardware in the last 6 months too.

I prefer 5.2.8 as well and this will be my workhorse for the moment.
