Thanks @01

@Playdayz would you add SAMBA 3.6.3 (01Micko's or Pemasu) to the Repo folder.

All is looking very very good in tests of the Libre version.

Thanks for all of this great work by the both of you.

My fault. I got too fancy. There were actually two versions, because as soon as I posted the first one lupulibre-528.005.iso I checked and Libre Office had updated to 3.5.2. So since I was set up, I updated and uploaded lupulibre-528-005-1.iso (note the -1 on the end).

The first one had a sum of d2fa813bac038dcf0eb10cb01d5d7686, but I do not think there are any links left to that now. The second has 9f1154bdeccdd49b7db66a1afb9fa902 and is no different from the first one except that it contains LibO 3.5.2. It is the one linked now. I apologize for the confusion--I was thinking of it as the world's fastest update, but anytime I try something like that I get caught--you'd think I would learn.

Oh jim3630 it even gets worse--I think at first the link was wrong for the -1 version. But everything is copasetic now....I hope. Yes, one of the links was wrong. I believe it is OK now. Again, sorry.

528v5 and broadcom 4311

Rerwin, Playdayz, et. al....

Can report success with the new version lupu 528v5 and LupuPlus with the broadcom wireless chip 4311.

LupuPlus 528v5 works out of the box with the adapter, perhaps because it has the earlier version of the STA or B43 set (bit unclear on that...?) It seems to be persistent, have made 3 reboots so far to check it (Live CD with savefile on FAT partition)

however, regular Lupu 528v5 requires installation of the new STA dual version pet per PeeBee and Rerwin's instructions, followed by TWO reboots to get the proper driver. Fought it for a bit, until I re-read the instructions and realized that a second boot would be required. Wireless on 528 now seems to be persistent, going to do a flashdrive install and then will report back.

I'll continue to retest on some new installs. In the past, for reasons unknown, I've had the chip work sometimes, and fail sometimes. However, it never survived a reboot, and the new 528v5 seems to have that ironed out.

Thank you all for your efforts regarding these troublesome proprietary chips.

broadcom wireless chip 4311.

cowboy, Lupu Plus is the one that is optimized for the broadcom--so that is good news indeed. Thanks.

Initial testing of 528-005Libre with SAMBA works OOTB

Both versions have been tested and both version install and operate without any local or network issues using PUP528-005+Libre.

Edited: Is there a way, either in the Initial Boot Splash or in FirstRUN or in Hardinfo that the Puppy release level can be shown. It would make it easy to determine which Puppy is running. (for example ...004, .,..005 or ...005-1 )?

Expect a PM on SAMBA links

broadcom 4311 fail

Dang it, Playdayz, I had Lupu_Plus fail on my second install...did this:

1. Booted off Live CD
2. First run, SNS ran, was offered on ETH1 - wireless - wl - pci - x
3. choose that, and connected to wireless. Pinged yahoo, no problem
4. Reboot and create savefile on FAT USB partition
5. On reboot, SNS ran, was offered WLAN0 - wireless - b43 - pcmia - broadcom - b43 wireless adapter. So, chose that
6. Got message "failed to activate interface wlan0"

7. Rebooted a few times, no connection, same fail message.

8. As a further test, installed the STA dual pet on this setup, but when I attempted to reboot, the computer hung during shutdown...saw this at top of black screen - "Lucid is shutting down - HDA: Intel PCI.....INT A...Disabled" I inserted the dots, could get it all down, if needed. Anyway, took a hard shutdown to stop computer.

Please just let me know if you'd like me to try anything further, or if I should grab a pmodemdiag at some point in the chain of events above.

Does "LupuLibre 528.005-1 with LibO 3.5.2" contain the updates you include in "Lupu Plus" as well?

Thanks in advance.

@Cowboy

I have nothing against SNS as I believe it is very competent.

But, over the past several months, I have found FRISBEE to be a formidable candidate for Wireless connections within Puppylands.

You MAY want to evaluate its use. Go to Menu>Internet>Frisbee ....
The rest, I think you'll be able to assess. And, it will update your tray icon as well for you.

I have found it to work well on initial use, AND over save-session reboot via my Live media.

Hope this helps

Yes, those plus some. Right now Lupu 5.28.005 is the most up to date Lucid variant--but that will change soon when Lupu Plus and 3HD are updated.

6. Got message "failed to activate interface wlan0"
cowboy, I think rerwin has an idea about this which he might ask you to test or which might show up in the upcoming lupuplus update.

As gcmartin says, Frisbee can be installed from the Internet menu. It might be worth a try, if you haven't already.

Wow. Well done playdayz and co.

A noobs first impressions and humble suggestions should there be another remaster.

Current Lupu528libre0051

First impressions count.

Humbly suggest default wallpaper should be set to wallpaperpuppy3d-wide.jpg and icon set as bluemoon to compliment default openbox theme. Maybe crystal, I like bits of both but bluemoon suits current default openbox theme better on the whole. Clock font set to white. Network icon default to tuxx or business if not frisbee.

These simple changes would make for a better, more impressive, coherent and intergrated oobe aesthetic look to this wonderful release of puppy linux.

This is just my own humble opinion as a new user.

Have had trouble aligning icons on the desktop and associating ODF docs to libre icons.

Have had trouble with wine that is not present in lighthouse 503g.

Otherwise beautiful.

Thank you.

Good bye.

*Edit* Also, the save icon is annoying on usb installs - the most likely modern user option. It appears in the most inconvenient of places and always requires moving/removing. Desktop templates takes some finding. Desktop look, layout and feel is important to non-geek users to feel in control of.

pupshutdown.pet options should be stock. the option of shutting down without a savefile gives new users the confidence to tweak away without fear, knowing that they can easily restart from the point that they last saved and were happy with whilst learning a new system or migrating from windows/apple. it takes a while to become comfy with the puppy paradigm - ease us in gently.

And one more thing. A dedicated laptop pet would be cool. For function/media keys and power button, etc. The one pointed to via puppy news in quickpet confuses the tray, adding an extra battery monitor icon and power options with no option not to and is difficult to configure/remove. The fribee installer works well. Something like that but for laptops maybe.

And the moon. On a stick.

Finally, i can highly recomend http://www.linuxliveusb.com/ to windows users curious about linux as a way to 'safely' and easily check it out.

Thanks again, goodbye!

That is a nice one. We did use it as default in one version. Thanks.

Oh, I only checked odt. I m not very knowledgeable about this--I think I remember odf, but Libre doesn't seem to recognize that--only odt. Can anyone explain? Wikipedia says odf is for opendocument formulae--I did test that odt word processor docs open in Libre.

Are you using green-domes's wine? What is the trouble?
