Hi All,

Jamesbond has released PSIP Version 1.0 in 32 bit and 64 bit.

Grant will do the .pet files after he gets some sleep.

Raw files are here http://puppylinux.ca/fatdog/test/
Right click to save the file to your computer. Then make it executable to run.

There is no change from PSIP-RC-10 Those that have this file do not need to upgrade to V1.0.

Psip for 32 & 64 bit has been released.

There are four versions altogether.

Psip32-1.0.pet is a 32 bit compile with no recording functionality.
Psip32R-1.0.pet is a 32 bit compile with recording functionality.
Psip64-1.0.pet is a 64 bit compile with no recording functionality.
Psip64R-1.0.pet is a 64 bit compile with recording functionality.

Get them here by clicking on the Internet icon:
http://www.smokey01.com/menu/

All work very well.

If you have trouble with sound it is unlikely to be Psip related. Make sure your sound works prior to using it. You need to check your microphone and make sure it is working too.

Simple Voice Recorder is a good tool for doing this, get it here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?mode=attach&id=45996

If sound works before running Psip and doesn't when using Psip then it's probably the network, once again not Psip related.

You need to make sure port 5060 is open. The best way to test if it's a port problem is to turn off the firewall. If it works without a firewall then the problem is confirmed.

We are working on a solution to simplify the port issue.

It's not recommended to use Psip without a firewall.

Anyone who has a good understanding on how to turn port 5060 on and off by using a bundled in CLI utility, your advice is welcomed.

Enjoy

This is a direct link to 32bit PSip v1.0 with recorder..ahem Wink

http://www.smokey01.com/software/internet/Psip32R-1.0.pet

Most users will need the 32bit.
Team leader Smokey01 has done lot of work...well done Smokey the firefighter...aka....a real Fireman by trade.
I want to thank James ("Bond....James Bond" from the movies..in my best Bond voice..I think the new Bond was quite good), Grant ,Lobster,Dogle and all involved to make this a VERY interesting exercise of a Puppy application.

I'm somewhat speechless..Eric

Until I find a way to make the firewall behave properly I have created a little PET that will allow you to turn the Firewall On and Off.

I wouldn't have bothered but the functionality in the Firewall tray does not seem to turn the firewall off. It can delete and reinstall it.

When you run TFW (Toggle Fire Wall) you will see the tray icon change state.

Here is a simple test.

1. Run Psip
2. Register
3. Make sure your name is in the buddy's list
4. Call yourself (if won't work)
5. Now try the music test (it probably won't work if you have the firewall installed)
6. Now run TFW and click on Stop Firewall (music should now start)

Hope this helps.
tfw-1.0.pet
Description  Turns Fire Wall on and off. Firewall has to be installed first.

I installed tfw, but it wouldn't run when I entered tfw in a terminal window.

Got "Command not found".

It was showing in both PPM and "Check dependencies".

Did you have the standard firewall installed?

it uses the command /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall which is installed when you install the firewall.

Looking forward to trying the firewall toggle later, although I am not hopeful that this is the problem I have with 32-series (still freezes when I try to put in the config stuff). (I do not have firewall enabled in the box when testing).

Running 0.26 in Wary on a 530MHz box just now I was having problems hearing Smokey's voicemails - staccato sound - until I noticed most of the CPU load was being attributed to Retrovol.

Closing the Retrovol GUI gave a big improvement sound wise, and I'm thinking there could be an interrupt queue kind of problem with slow processors.

Just crashed that box, so I'm off out now looking for a 'new' one.

1. "Did you have the standard firewall installed?"
Yes.
Used "Frisbee->Firewall wizard->Default" to install.

The help is up at:
http://www.smokey01.com/help/psip/psip-help.html

Paste this line into Preferences > Misc. Settings > Command to execute on help
Code:

defaultbrowser http://www.smokey01.com/help/psip/psip-help.html

It could do with a bit more formatting but it's a good start.

Your situation has me stumped.

What Puppy are you using?

I will try a live CD and see what occurs when you let me know.

The very little application sits in /usr/local/tfw-1.0/

Just click on tfw and see if it runs.

It calls up a file called rc.firewall which is located in /etc/rc.d

I am using Frisbee here

We may have solved the firewall problem. Just fine tuning at the moment.

crashes in polarpup003. it installs ok, starts ok and if i click on the music test link it works.
If i open the preferences/config window (sorry can't remember proper name) i can enter my details etc but trying to close the window just crashes the whole thing and i have to kill both windows and restart x to get anything to work with it again.
I have tried using the latest 32bit normal and record versions.

You are not alone, headfound, psip32 hangs up similarly for me when I try to run it in Wary.

I understand that jamesbond has tested with a Wary version so it is puzzling, we were discussing it earlier in the conference.

Watching the action in rxvt after kicking off the binary from the CLI, it seems that psip32 is having some problem at the outset in making friends with the sound setup in my box, and hangs before generating its .config file.

(I also notice that the display of Preferences=>Audio comes up with the outbound sound set to 'dmix' rather than the detected sound card or 'default' .... I wonder if that's the upset).

I expect smokey01 and jamesbond will be catching up on some very well-earned sleep right now but, for anyone impatient to try Psip but stuck with a similar psip32 hangup, the Psip 0.26 is working very nicely for me.

Guys,
Let us hope headfound gets Psip working we can ask for a live rendition of the Puppy song . . . Cool
. . . all together now 'Pick up an old computer from out of the trash . . .'
http://youtu.be/rDTLJYDHX3g
Smile
The Sunday conference call went well
Guys, thanks for permission to record.
For the recording I only seem able to record myself . . .?
Did not hear others on the recording - maybe Eric was there a little
but very low volume. So the mic was picking up very slightly from headphones.
- saddened me that everyone will not be part of my next pawed cast
(whenever that is) Crying or Very sad

Great to hear from JamesBond + child (he broke radio silence)
the programming maestro behind Puppy Phone.
Thanks for all your input and efforts.

Grant (smokey01) who is our most knowledgeable Puppy phone user
was able to explain many new and hidden features.
For example the hold feature.
http://www.smokey01.com/help/psip/psip-help.html

New potential features were discussed.
Dogle and Eric our intrepid testers were able to offer their experiences.
Me and Eric found we were not using the latest version
- we have updated to v 1.0 Cool
Everybody seems to enjoy using Psip Puppy Phone once working. Smile
Sound quality is good, low volume is easily fixed before or during a connect. So for example jamesbond just needed to boost his sound setting a little . . .

Barry mentions Psip Puppy phone on his blog . . .
http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02496
let him know it works . . .

Next conference call on Sunday October 2 2011 at 1300h GMT daylight saving time

Maybe hairywill (programmer of early 2008 Psip) is back from his hols and will join us?
