Will Nathan or Mu compile a s a dotpup or sfs?

I for one hope so. This is a lovely vector drawing package.

No need to compile, simply download and extract the binary, works fine.
But you still cannot save, so it is not usable yet:

I hope they will add the "save" soon, then it will be a fast and powerfull vectorgrafics-editor.

Mark, there is a "Save as" under "File" that worked for me. Is that not what you meant?

no...
676 and 698 create no file at all, though the save as-dialog opens.

738 creates empty files.
What version do you use?

Xara coming - the best vector drawing package

#6 Post by Lobster »

:(

The save and the font tool is not working yet
the code will be fed into inkscape

At the moment I am doing some work in Xara
and then taking a screenshot into mtpaint

eg:
http://tmxxine.com/wiki/NingASQ
(that does not illustrate some of the amazing things Xara can do
eg transparency - the point is I am using it)

I think we first heard they were going Open Source for Linux around Xmas?
So in a few months the progress has been good . . .

If you are an artist then this with Gimp and Inkscape should be a powerful combination . . .

I am used to Xara - it is much more usable than Coreldraw and even my brother-in-law as a graphic artist prefers it to some Mac tools (he will use the Mac version when it is out)

I have been following Xara LX development very closely ever since the announcement that it was going OpenSource. It's a very impressive project and the pace of development has been pleasantly fast. I just checked out the latest build a few days ago and a lot is working now. I also checked out the source but compilation stopped with errors at a pretty early stage.

There is a lot more work to be done yet before it's ready for heavy use, but at some point in the future I may use it to replace Inkscape in Grafpup. I wouldn't try putting it into Puppy, though, because the executable is 13 MB. It may compress somewhat going into usr_cram but not enough to avoid an overall size increase. Putting this in perspective the entire Sodipodi package is around 1400 KB, or about one tenth the size. I think you get a lot of functionality for that and it's a perfect match for Puppy. Of course the build that is posted to the Xara site is probably larger than is neccessary but I don't yet know by how much because I wasn't able to compile the source.

As Mark mentioned it's easy to try it out by just downloading the latest build and extracting it. You can then run it by just clicking it.
