Unable to boot. "Kernel panic: No init found."

I get the following error when using Puppy 1.0.1, 1.0.2, and 1.0.3 in a dozen different computers of many brands and capabilities. Some are 266 MHz with 64MB RAM and some are 2.0 GHz with 1024 MB RAM and everything in between.

"Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to the kernel."

I checked the md5sums of the ISO's and they were okay. I even tried burning at 4x and that did not make a difference. So far the only computer I can get Puppy to work on is more buggy than a subway bathroom and that is only with v0.9.8.

Any ideas?

Do you have some more information about these different machines and is there any common thing about them or something you have shared between them like a CDROM or anything.
