pfix=ram just bypasses savefile and loads the main sfs to the ram.
acpi=off Default on for PCs >2001, may give bootshutdown probs.
pfix=ram Run totally in RAM ignore saved sessions,
pfix=<n> number of saved sessions to ignore (multisession-CD),
pfix=nox commandline only, do not start X,
pfix=noram do not copy .sfs files to RAM (faster boot, slower running),
pfix=fsck do filesystem check on DISTRO_FILE_PREFIXsave (and host partition),
pfix=clean file cleanup (simulate version upgrade),
pfix=purge more radical file cleanup (to fix broken system).
pkeys=<xx> Keyboard layout, choices: azerty be-latin1 br-abnt2 br-abnt br-latin1-abnt2 br-latin1-us by cf croat cz de de-latin1 dk dvorak dvorak-l dvorak-r es et fi fr gr hu101 hu il it jp106 lt mk nl no pl pt-latin1 ro ru se sg sk-qwerty sk-qwertz slovene sv-latin1 uk us wangbe

pdev1=sdc1 The boot partition.
psubdir=puppies/wary501 Path in which Puppy is installed.
psavemark=2 Partition no. (in boot drive) to save session to.
pmedia=usbflash Type of media booting from. Choose one of these:
usbflash usbhd usbcd ataflash atahd atacd atazip scsihd scsicd cd
pupsfs=sdc1:/puppies/wary501/puppy.sfs Override auto search.

http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/pet_pack ... 7-dpup.pet

I have created the update pet for needed files for samba client for accessing windows 7 shares.
The files are extracted from my compiled full samba, version 3.6.3.
This update concerns Pnethood when you try to acces win 7 shares.

The update is so big that I am not yet going to include it to the puplet. First I would need clear request for it.

The fix is from here. Our cups and samba specialist hits again...

Many thanks for the pfix explanation.

These are lines from my syslinux.cfg:

kernel /vmlinuz
append initrd=/initrd.gz pmedia=usb

My frugal install is on a usb sdb1. To speed up boot, is there a command to tell dpup where my sfs os and pupsave live? So it doesn't have to search for them?

jakfish. You should use pmedia=usbflash. pmedia=usb just slows things because it is not valid.
To speed up things you can use: pmedia=usbflash pdev1=sdb1
Remember that usb stick partition naming is dynamic...if you attach 2 sticks the sdb1 might point to the other stick....while booting.

So just install xorg-high and rerun xorgwizard and if it needs more install that also. As I posted....I had devx sfs installed when I did test it.
Pemaso,

Okay, I have the devx .sfs installed and set to load on boot. I had already installed the High Xorg package previously. Still no go.

Do I need to rerun the Xorg wizard again with the devx loaded? It needs to reset Xorg with devx loaded, is that correct, or should it be just working now?

I have devx sfs installed...as I have it almost always. I did use Sfs Apps Loader icon to download Blender-2.6.1.sfs...I did load it and the the xorg-high sfs....with sfs_load. Then I just clicked the icon in menu and it started.

It seems that sfs has bundled python3.2 included. Not sure if devx sfs is needed at all.

petget-20120331

pemasu wrote:Here is for test the improved petget stuff. For pet installations...it warns if existing files will be overwritten...if there is already installed pet providing same files....and when using PPM it checks the missing dependencies and asks you if you want to install those dependencies. This happens when you choose the install only choice. And the pet has in pet.specs file those dependencies included.
I have reviewed the petget-improved-0.0.1 and found the jemimah's 2 of 3 updates do not work, warning files be overwritten and checking the missing dependencies.
I have uploaded petget-20120331.pet. I recommend to replace 3 files at least, installpkgs.sh, petget and removepreview.sh. The removepreview.sh includes my update on the recovering the system files.
http://shino.pos.to/linux/puppy/

My petget-20120331 did not take jemimah and pemasu's asking to install missing dependencies(check_deps.sh), because it breaks portability other than dpup. Also my petget-20120331 does not have Ziggy's interface, because the user interface is very important for these applications and I cannot take my effort for two different interfaces.

Thanks Shinobar. I would like to keep the check_deps.sh which had that dpup modification for missing deps installing. Do you think I could replace it and have all your other petget folder content which seems to work well. And I can forget the Ziggy UI for a while. First the functionality, then the esthetics....

And 5.X.3.1.10.3 is ready. I have used the woof which Barry K used for latest Racy. Seems to behave. And now the ping and wget has -4 for using ipv4. James C should be happy.

I will have for live CD grub4dos and my edited simple dpup splash.xpm. I used Shinobars excellent guide to to use grub4dos and found from the thread the link to edit splash.xpm. With 14 colors it is not easy.

I did test with this version. I changed to use stock woof quickset - firstrun stuff. And the locale change is not remembered. I checked my possible ovewriting files...couldnt find anything. So....I removed from initrd.gz the PLANG file and repackaged the initrd.gz. And the locale change has been remembered after reboot and using savefile.

So...if I choose the default locale during woof build using 3builddistro, that locale has been hardcoded.

I will repack the iso now without that PLANG file. But I dont have energy now to reprocess all files and change to use Shinobars Firstrun. I think that anti-internationalization feature is not nice. But now when I know that what Shinobar previously posted...is true...I can live with it. I can check with next woof build that the PLANG will be removed and I wont need this kind initrd.gz repacking process.
I dont know what Barry K achieves with this hardcoding but I am not in the map with this internationalization either...so nothing new....

I hope that repacking of initrd.gz dont change any important permissions or ownerships. I have read about problems due to repacking..

You can keep the check_deps.sh. I guess it works, but i have no responsibility. I hope you test it by yourself.
As for the Ziggy UI, i do not have any opinion on the esthetics, but only the cost to maintain two interfaces.

firstrun-2.0.9

#972 Post by shinobar »

I have uploaded firstrun-2.0.9.pet. http://shino.pos.to/linux/puppy/
# 29mar12: v2.0.9: fix was cli missing some locales, console font, language deatail dialog(thanks to gcmartin), etc_profile_at_shutdown, DISTRO_XORG_AUTO, splash

As for the delayedrun on the Dpup Exprimo 5.X.3.1.10.2, do you aware that the getflash is called infinity unless flashplayer installed?

Dpup 5.X.3.1.10.3 has been uploaded
Woof used: [8974b31b2c] Leaf: version used to build wary/racy 5.2.91 (5.3RC2)
-------> http://bkhome.org/fossil/woof2.cgi/timeline

For live CD...there is now for booting grub4dos menu by grldr, menu.lst and splash.xpm.

Changes. Pet installation and PPM uses Shinobar`s recent petget-20120331.pet with dpup modified deps_check.sh. Overwriting warning and missing deps downloading suggestion now implemented. Classic UI only.

Getflash fixed, no more changed permissions or ownerships. Also ipv4 only feature added to the scripts. James C should be happy.

Lxterminal now the default console....so that gtk-youtube-viewer right click panel works now. You can watch the added and queued youtube videos now with right click. Rxvt-unicode ie urxvt is still there. Removing all the script dependencies for urxvt is not my priority. Vte preinstalled so you can add other vte using terminals easily.

Galculator the same. Replacing it with small - stylish - numlock remembering and enabling - disabling numlock when using - calculator was not easy business. I could get the numlock working but with too big size. Not worth it. I dont want 6 Mb calculator for it.

Gnome-Mplayer-1.0.6b1 and Gecko-Mediaplayer-1.0.6b1. Firefox 11
Postscript files opens now with left click and has also right click choice to open. They have also exportable a4paper definition in /etc/profile.d/a4paper.
Pmusic-2.5.2, Gmeasures added for unit conversion, Gplanner with preview (when you have created something to preview) fixed, xosd - osd_cat patched - recompiled, vbetool added and volume scripts added.
Small fixes which I dont remember anymore....

Thank Shinobar. I will test your newest Firstrun.
About getflash. Yup...or the meaning is that when you create the wireless connect....after done the firstrun setup....there would be getflash still waiting and the question if you would like to download flash would be presented. After you deny it...there should be checking working and it should not be asked again...after that first time. I have modifed the code again for 5.X.3.1.10.3 version...but I have to admit that my understanding of all the code is in stress. I am no able coder as I have stated many times....But I try to understand the code somewhat.

peazip-portable-4.4.pet has been reuploaded. For the first time I had a need and I tried to decompress .7z package and I noticed there wasnt mime association for it. So I added it and now left click of the .7z and also the rox right click choices works with that pet.
It is in exprimo repo.

Exprimo 5.X.3.10.3 .....frugal install on my main Athlon XP box.

GetFlash finally works. :D

Still no Wget or working ping though ........ unless I add the "-4" to the command.

# ping -4 www.google.com

Fails the Safe mode

#979 Post by shinobar »

Thanks for the 5.X.3.1.10.3. Working nicely.

But it is strange for me, the love CD fails at the 'Safe mode'. I edited the boot option and got success with deleting two options, 'nodma nopcmcia'. (You can edit the boot option by typing 'e' on the menu.)
Strange because i have never faced to such a case for the other versions. Firstly, i guessed a hardware or the kernel issue. I tested a VirtualBox and the the real PC and got the same. I now suspect initrd.gz, that is woof.

Without the 2 options 'nodma nopcmcia', boots up with no problem.
With any of these options, boot up fails saying cannot find the main sfs. But also it shows strange behavior. It says "Loading 'no' keyboard layout" and the console font seems different from the success case.

Anyway, we are better to change the boot option for the 'Safe mode':

Code: Select all

kernel /vmlinuz pmedia=cd pfix=ram,nox acpi=off apm=off nosmp noapic
initrd /initrd.gz

@pemasu
BTW, the boot menu on the 5.X.3.1.10.3 seems older version.
