E16 Window Manager

Here's E16, the more-retro and lighter brother of E17 we all appreciate and love :D

Sources are here, I tried to upload them but the forums won't let me ... grrrr

It's about the same size as Fluxbox, but has many nice things like its built-in compositor, fast scaling and Epplets :)

Built on dpup, should work on Lucid and maybe also on Slacko. The sources are 100% vanilla except a small modification to /usr/share/e16/scripts/e_menu_gen that adds menu entries for reboot and poweroff and adds Puppy icon paths.

Many think it's dead, but it's totally wrong - development is active and I think it's a very nice window manager.

In order to run E16 you'll need imlib2 and E16 itself; the Epplets package provides lightweight desktop widgets and the e16-docs one provides documentation and E16's nice help viewer, which has the best window manager documentation I've ever seen.

I tried E17 on slacko, but it didn't work.
Maybe this one will.

E17 did work on lucid and on next.

I installed imlib2-1.4.5.pet and e16-1.0.9.pet in Fluppy 13. Nothing else.
As far as I see the start of E16 is starte16, but the link is broken.
So I don't seem to be able to start E16

I put "e16" in /etc/windowmanager and it works just fine.

I tried e16 now in slacko B4.
The desktop of JWM is transformed in a background picture as non of the displayed icons are click-able. When clicking on one, the menu is displayed to choose applications from.

I installed epplets pet and saw briefly something of utilities.
But I see nothing in the utilities referring to epplets.
Also hovering on the epplets entry, nothing is shown.

I also looked in the settings to find how I could activate a system tray or other shelves (like in E17) but don't find it. Maybe this isn't implemented.

Otherwise pretty snappy in B4.

I must have had sand in the eyes.
Right click gives settings and desktop gives the options to create a system tray and icon box.
However I don't see how I can hide those and unhide when touching the screen edge.

As been seen here all worked good for me.
Nice compositing, menu, and a few epplets running on the right side.... like it ;-)

Lowrider,
You have to report in which puppy version this works.

:D Hello,
Beem, you need to kill the Rox pinboard..
In a terminal:
rox -p=
That will fix the layering...

Where is the Puppy Menu

I have installed e16 on Precise Puppy 5, and it works great with one exception: I don't have the Puppy menu. How do I get the Puppy menu to show up in e16?

hi john_e_w

hmm

Haven't tried this one and it's been quite awhile since I did my original e16 from a bunch of packages. Try looking in ~/.e16 and follow the menu trail if there's no 'easy' menu converter. Syntax is pretty easy to follow if you have to build it manually using ~/.jwmrc as a guide. If you just can't get started with what's there, I've sent you a pm with an attached archive of what I have in my precise (sample only since my menu is a trifle customized but pretty close to a traditional pupmenu).

One of the nice things about e16 (and icewm) is it doesn't show 'dead' menu entries so you rarely need to comment-out junk.

Not sure about Iguleder's build, but my e16 is left-click for the apps/pupmenu, right-click is all the e16 config-o-rama+ ;)

oya, welcome to the kennels!
