I wonder if it is possible to create a PetGet that grabs the latest chirp-daily-xxxxxxxx.tar.gz and then overwrites the older installed version?
edoc,

AFAIK all you need to do is download the latest version, extract it somewhere, open a console in extracted directory, then do the following:

Code: Select all

rm /usr/bin/chirpw
rm -rf /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/chirp*
rm -rf /usr/share/chirp
python setup.py install

I can't get Chirp to run on Lucid 5.2.8. Is there some difference between 5.2.5 and 5.2.8 that is doing this or might it be the order that I installed the listed packages?

I get no errors popping up, just nothing happens when I try to start.

Did you try "chirpw"?

I'm getting a gtk error - I'm guessing I need one of the PPM (Puppy Package Manager) versions of gtk in addition to the Python2.6-pygtk.SFS ... not sure yet ...

Do you have Python2.6-pygtk.sfs loading when your computer boots?

I grabbed the SFS file and added it in the Bootmenu.

Things are crazy here ...

I have to chase the gtk thing ...

If no one else jumps in I will try to look at this again tomorrow ...

Did I say "tomorrow"?

Sorry ...

Just returned to this & what was missing was python-gtk______ (I forget the rest but it's 2.x something).

Chirp opens up fine then.
