I've gotten permission to scan and publish large cache of pictures and historical documents relating to a type of building method from the 1800s.
But I must do scanning on site, and during hours open. would like to script the flow, so I'm looking for OCR, and good color picture scanners that work well with puppylinux.
Need your input on what to buy or avoid. Printing speed/quality is not a big issue, scanning speed, OCR is.
also lightweight would be a plus.

Are you planning to use a document feeder or must you work off the glass?Ted Dog wrote:would like to script the flow,
That's a separate issue - are you primarily scanning text or graphics?so I'm looking for OCR
In my experience, there is not much difference in the scanning units of most multi-purpose printers. Speed is primarily determined by your choice of resolution. Although some models have slightly better colour quality.Need your input on what to buy or avoid. Printing speed/quality is not a big issue, scanning speed, OCR is.
Have you considered getting a dedicated scanner? Some Epson models, like in the Perfection v3xx line have Linux drivers. See the discussion here.
