Ttuuxxx reported GSEAL errors when he tried to compile metacity in Racy.
Maybe they are related to the new gtk version in Wary and Racy. Just brainstorming.
I just compiled latest gtkdialog in dpup and it succeeded fine.

I also had trouble with the new gtk.

Vim 7.3.353

gtk2 is not found, so the X11-Athena GUI is compiled, rather than the GTK2 GUI

also tried:
--enable-gui=gtk2
--enable-gui=gtk2 --disable-gtktest
--enable-gui=gtk

all fail and compile only the non-GUI version

No problem compiling vim in racy 52190 and 52191 or earlier.

Corner tags not used in jwm themes since awhile back.. perhaps the given theme files need an update or edit? The old corner tag was just a way to differentiate the border color in that area of the window decoration, it got simplified out when rounded corners became the fashion in jwm.

Simply delete (or comment out) the <corner>somecolor</corner> line(s) in offending /root/.jwm/themes/<themename>-jwmrc theme(s) in the <WindowStyle> section of the theme file(s).

It's no biggie, but it'll throw that error up if the old corner tag is extant/active in the jwm theme currently used - /root/.jwm/jwmrc-theme. Shouldn't have anything to do with window placement/size, just jwm checking :|

thank you 'f00, I shall comment them out and see if that fixes the corner problem I am having.

It's the Gradient-bluish-jwmrc theme, I find it restfull to my 'elderly' eyes when tired.

thanks again

scsijon

EDIT: just had a look at it and it !is commented out in both places, so I wonder where else it may be coming from?

EDIT2: ahah!, not commented out in /root/.jwm/jwmrc-theme, will comment out here and see what happens on reboot

Wary Puppy 5.2.2

#292 Post by Monsie »

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to Puppy Linux, and have been running Wary Puppy on an old HP Pentium 3, cpu=500mhz, ram=384mb since mid September when I acquired this desktop from a colleague who was about to throw it in the landfill... Anyway, I am very pleased with how well Wary Puppy has been running and have upgraded to latest release.

Since Wary 5.2 I noticed a very minor bug in Seamonkey in that the browser lists itself as version 2.3.1 in the help menu --about Seamonkey when it is my understanding that Wary is running version 2.3.2 I don't know how much this matters, but I found that the fix was easy to do, namely: modify the info in the "application.ini" file within the Seamonkey 2.3.2 directory to read Version 2.3.2 instead of 2.3.1
Save the change in Geany text editor, and confirm the version change upon opening Seamonkey and checking "about Seamonkey" within the Help menu. :)

Cheers

Yep, that's fixed that one, thanks again 'f00.

Now i'm getting
----------------------------------------
Gtk-WARNING **: Error loading theme icon 'gtk-unindent-ltr' for stock: Icon 'gtk-unindent-ltr' not present in theme
Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_set_sensitive: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed
-----------------------------------------------------------
agree with the first one, can't find it anywhere!
no idea where to start with the second.

Gtk is a whole 'nother ballgame. Also very pervasive since many/most gui apps are built with it as the window interior drawing engine and ui.

As I recall, the theme icons are internal (and so can't be found by usual file-finding utilities, but possibly may be accessed with dev tools?). The warning seems to be theme-specific, so maybe a switch to another gtk theme might clear that.

Sometimes stuff in xerrs.log may be not-so-critical - 'reminders', as it were for devs to iron out (gtk can be a complex thing to muddle through for novices like me). If the ui seems functional otherwise, likely it's a fine point in error checking (have had gtk error messages pop up in xerrs.log whenever I open obconf at times, if the app works I tend to disregard the slew of messages about spinbutton  ).

Apparently the sticky bit isn't set on the tmp directory on a stock Wary system.
Hmm, it was on previous versions...

And it is set on in woof's skeleton, however seems to be off in sandbox3's trees.

session, could you add the problem in barry's blog please under the latest woof topic.

I just checked my puppy_wary_5.2.2.sfs file and the /tmp directory's "sticky bit" is off.

Yup, that's what I meant, somewhere in the woof builder it's changing things, and that's a "BarryK" fix.

It will effect a number of internal apps and scripts.

X startup

#302 Post by seaside »

Barry, I've run into an unusual intermittent x starting problem (I think) in Wary 5.2.2. Most of the time, it works perfectly, but about 1 in 5 times just as x usually starts, the screen goes blank, a "no signal" message appears briefly; then hangs with no command line, requiring a manual power reboot.

Since no logs are available, I can't even see exactly what failed.

This is a frugal install and boot from a usb thumbdrive.

Below are the specs.

Shutdown hangs (SOLVED)

#304 Post by zekebaby »

In Wary 5.2.2, I noticed a problem with shutdown hanging if I don't manually unmount NFS or SSHFS mounted drives before shutting down. Poking around rc.shutdown, I found that //network drives are unmounted, but the grep does not pick up host:dir mounted drives.

Adding the following 4 lines in rc.shutdown near Line 190 solves the problem:

Code: Select all

for MOUNTPOINT in `mount | grep ':' | cut -d ' ' -f 3 | tr '\n' ' '`
do
  umount -f $MOUNTPOINT
done
Edit: made code more generic to detect other types of network drives such as sshfs

Although I primarily see this problem in Wary 5.1.1, I have observed the following behavior in Wary 5.2 when I was testing it for possibly upgrading my version of Wary. I have observed this undesired behavior on 4 different computers. Streaming YouTube videos for a long period eventually ends in the streaming function becoming corrupted. It is difficult to point to a single event that causes the streaming function to become corrupted, as I have experienced the sudden degradation of streaming into a closed loop during the playing of a video. There is a good likelihood that burdening a uniprocessor system with multiple streaming threads accelerates the corruption. To reproduce this behavior, the user has to be constantly connected to YouTube with multiple streams and multiple instances of SM. The video(s) can already have played through. It helps to let the computer fall into rest mode and be revived. After 5 or 6 hours, all streaming becomes corrupted, and the only solution is to reboot the computer, which cures the problem. It all may be a Flash issue. Although this is something I can live with, I expect better of Puppy. The loss of streaming can be very inconvenient, and rebooting risks loss of data unless one is prepared and accustomed to it.
