#1 Post by darkcity »

Has anyone tried we.riseup.net?
its a cross between facebook, google docs and wikis-

It has a few groups on there dedicated to linux and tech in general.

Should there be/ is there a Puppy group?

I thought it was just mailing-lists for political activists?

Uses Crabgrass as a networking medium
There has been a frenzy of articles describing the use of social media in the revolutions in North Africa, more often then not overstating the role of the medium and understating the role of people and their organizing efforts. It is within this context that we have been recently contacted by a variety of different people interested in writing about Crabgrass. We are happy for the attention, and believe very strongly in the need for secure social software that is not built using a surveillance business model.
Sounds good to me...not just activists, seems they have some coders in there, too

Interesting find, darkcity - perhaps some updates/info needs adding

At least Puppy gets a mention - but that's about it [lots of *buntu references in their archives...]

Although, it is set up by riseup.net who are activists, we.riseup.net isn't exclusive.

after looking at

https://joindiaspora.com/

http://appleseedproject.org/

crabgrass seems good, it has a purpose more that to be a social network but to facilitate collaboration. like a cross between facebook, google docs and wiki.

I'll promote Puppy on there and see what happens ; -)

Quick update on the Stallman talk - I was a bit disappointed to be honest...

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=72973

He had heard of Diaspora, at least

Unthink gets a 'still in it's infancy' review

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/tec ... le2221077/

surprise, surprise......

I have the distinct feeling we may have to be even more radical, as 'the corporate model' has focus and finance to swell its ranks - and employ good coders.....

How long before the collective focus shifts to the very backbone of the web, not just polishing the surface?

If the framework of the net's 'packages' are 'greed corrupted' - does it really matter that we can freely write about it in independent services like riseup/crabgrass/aseed/diaspora/unthink,.... that slide around on top of the 'greedy bits' that are corporate owned?
