Wine Gaming With Puppy? Oblivion IV or Similar

#1 Post by Amgine »

I have been wanting to play a Windows game (Oblivion IV), I would like to try and play it with puppy, but I am not sure where to start.

I downloaded Wine from the quick pet. Wine 1.3...... but that is as far as I got..

Has anyone had any luck playing games? Oblivion hopefully?

I seen ICYOS had some game stuff but he changed his stream but has not updated his game section..

I do not even know how to install the game(s).

hi Amgine

i've had success with some big games.... i've had dragon age origins, and s.t.a.l.k.e.r shadow of chenobyl running well in puppy.

the first port of call is the wine app database to look for tips on installing http://appdb.winehq.org/

here's a page for oblivion http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... n&iId=7506

first thing to do though if you have a frugal install is move the hidden .wine file from /root/.wine onto your harddrive then symlink it back. (this is to stop the games installing into your savefile)

next open a console and type

Code: Select all

winetricks d3dx9
to install directx, needed for all 3d games

then follow the instructions from the wine site

the extra wine stuff can be seen by opening a terminal and typing.....

Code: Select all

winetricks -h

then

Code: Select all

winetricks nameofextra
to install any needed extras

Thanks, I will see what happens and let you know. I haven't used any Microsoft programs for a long time, this will be interesting.
