Well I bought a refurb Acer monitor.
I plugged it in and set 1920x1080 through xorgwizard and it worked right off.
Rebooted a few times and no problems.
Rebooted into Windows 7 to let it set up the new monitor and then back to Saluki and the monitor is out of its 1920x1080 resolution, LOL
Finally got it back by selecting the I know the frequency range of the monitor. I really dont know the range but used the range from the Samsung 45-70 and 50-75.

Turned the computer off overnight and in the morning it no longer is in the right resolution.
This time the freq range fix does not work, so I finally unload the Nvidia driver and reboot and then reload the Nvidia driver.
Reset the freq. range and all is back to normal.

This really is puzzling to me, and since no one has replied I guess its just me having this issue.

Psuedo-transparent terminal? I get the slider bar and I can get varying shades of grey, but I can't get the transparent terminal to go. Any ideas? Not using transparency overall and don't really want to...

And really lovin' this version, Jemimah!

**Note*: no transparency with mrxvt either (I like one that forum member gecko did 'back in the day' and it installed and runs great, just a black background though when it should be transparent).

Something in the xfce/puppy combo configurgation that eliminates psuedo-transparancy?

@steve_s

Did you switch on the composite manager? Control Panel->Xfwm Window Manager Tweaks->Compositor->Enable display compositing.

That's real transparency and it's fantastic. :)

Hi. I tried Saluki 022 last night and for the most part was impressed with it but I was unable to get Flash to work - and I tried several different Flash files. Has anyone else had the same problem, and if so, how did they solve it?

(Apologies in advance for not searching through 225 pages of this thread for an answer.)
Gigabyte M68MT-52P motherboard, AMD Athlon II X4 630, 5.8 GB of DDR3 RAM and a 250 GB Hitachi hard drive running Ubuntu 16.04.6, MX-19.2, Peppermint 10, PCLinuxOS 20.02, LXLE 18.04.3, Pardus 19.2, exGENT 200119, Bionic Pup 8.0 and Xenial CE 7.5 XL.

Thanks battleshooter. I did and it is. i just have noticed performance issues with the compositing in the past, but haven't seen that yet with Saluki. So, it looks like we're good. Thanks!

Flash is not reliable. The easiest solution may be the latest chrome browser which has flash included . . .

Hi Chrome is not available for Saluki due to missing lib's and dependices might be a nice idea as its a popular browser to have someone compile this for Saluki :)
Many Thanks

jemimah has mentioned this.
Chromium would need to be compiled on Saluki for it to work. Compiling it was way beyond my current skill level last time I tried it (I may have leveled up by now, perhaps I'll try it again at some point). AFAIK no one has ever successfully compiled it on any Puppy. Google does not make a "portable" Chrome version the way Firefox and Opera are compiled specially to work on a wide variety of distros.

Guys
I should have remembered.
Have not used Saluki in a while - been relying on Slacko. I am hoping someone will use Saluki as a base to create a more 'Old style' or 'woof like' Puppy, then I would be able to use it. Sometimes I need familiar tools - rather than the best as used in Saluki.

As a side note I am not really (much to my surprise) missing flash in the non flash Ipad. Youtube is embracing HTML5.

I look forward to jemimahs return after her busy workload eases.
Is there another Flash solution perhaps? :)

HTML5 seems to have as part of its specification the ability to implant data into your computer via the browser. Not sure that the privacy tools have caught up with this yet. And I'm not sure that Chromium has adequate security built in to prevent external access to our data and search info etc etc.

Thanks for the advice. I'll think about it. I've never used Chrome very much as I always found it less intuitive to use than Firefox, Opera, Seamonkey etc. but maybe it's time I gave it a proper look now.

Best,

CP .

By the way, someone else might want to look up what "FTW" means :)

I love Seamonkey but the new versions have that "data manager" thingy that hoards the names of every domain you visit - and doesn't delete them when you clear the private info.

I think Midori might have been a very wise choice for Saluki.

Ok so after all that SAN-retraining travel frenzy my job decided to just lay me off instead.

So I guess I'm back until I get a new job and the travel frenzy starts again. :)
