Lazy 2.01 report (cont)
I thought to try Start/Graphic/Raster Graphic Editors/Hugin
A dialog popped up to day it was downloading Hugin. After a couple of minutes with no progress happening, I killed the dialog.
Tried again, and this time left the dialog alone, and it eventually loaded and installed OK.
I think it is really important to inform the user of progress when a 'wait' dialog of any sort appears. Otherwise it is difficult to tell if it is working or not.
When I clicked 'Hugin Batch Processor' I got an error dialog.
When I ran 'PLogo' it complained of 'bad fonts' and eventually crashed when using 'Courier' as a font. It also only worked in monochrome.
==update==
Unable to shutdown. This is the second time I had to do a hard reset to get out of the system.
I will go back to Lazy 2.0 - version 2.01 is too unstable for me to use

Yes, i did notice: there are some issues with 2.0.1 - but not like you discribed.minesadorada wrote:I thought to try Start/Graphic/Raster Graphic Editors/Hugin

Downloading a file can take some 8a lot of) time, so the user just have to wait until the message is closed. If download fails, the user gets informed. If download succeeds, the program runs after download (so, the user also gets informed).
Some menu entries did not find their run-scripts - maybe hugin batch is like that. i am checking this out.
PLogo is as is - i do have the same issues, but deceide to install - even though it works partial.
I do not have any shutdown problems.
---
Curently working on bug fixes and nice updates - 2.0.2 is on the way.
---
Currently 145 iso downloads and only one message of problems - seems alright to me, so far.
By the way: a that much hard job (SFS PLUS, Remaster Suite etc) resulting in these smart functions done by a beginner of bash - there must have been some issues. I am just glad about there not more issues...
Sorry to hear you are going back to 2.0...
...i will do my best on 2.0.2!

I have examined this - and, yes: this is one of the menu entries that has not found its run-script.minesadorada wrote:When I clicked 'Hugin Batch Processor' I got an error dialog.
I do use the sed command to replace the "Exec=" entry inside the .desktop file (menu entry). Currently it does not find entries using a parameter (like: Exec=PTBatcherGUI %F in Hugin Batch). I have solved this and it's been gone. Just added double quotes at the sed command (this quote and double quote stuff sometimes is really confusing!!!).
I forgot: i do have a fonts SFS with over 800 ttf fonts inside the sfs. No Problems with PLogo using this SFS. Have made now a LazY Puppy signature unsing PLogo and the fonts SFS, that looks really fine.minesadorada wrote:When I ran 'PLogo' it complained of 'bad fonts' and eventually crashed when using 'Courier' as a font. I did solve this also. In LazY Puppy 2.0.2 the user will get full information of download status. I was able to modify the PPM skript "download_file" to use it with my own files at the server of smokey01. Just 2 modifications on the download directory and adding one line in the very beginning of the original script and it works.minesadorada wrote:I think it is really important to inform the user of progress when a 'wait' dialog of any sort appears. There are also some new features on the SFS-Installer (batch mode) and the Remaster-Suite (adding files to iso) f.e. More on that later...

Hi, I would like to try Lazy 2, but I see that the downloads area mentions the following:
LazY Puppy Release 2 - ISO
BugFix & Update PET 01
Does this mean I need to download the iso, install it, then download the bugfix and install it aswell?
So running from the Live CD would just have bugs?
Thank you!

The donwload area is out of date. The links might not work anymore. I have to delete some of the entries over there - hope i can do this tonight.
The new LazY Puppy 2.0.1 download link is in the first post of this thread.
But please do yourself a favour and wait a few days. Then i will upload a fixed version of 2.0.1 - then called 2.0.2 - and a few fixed and/or new sfs files. LazY Puppy (2.0.1) 2.0.2 has some really nice new features.
I think you can run LazY Puppy 2.0.2 from CD but you have to use frugal installation if you want to use all its new features. Especially automatically download feature of programs. All programs are coming as sfs and currently there will be over 74 programs coming as sfs. They will download automatically at first run into the LazY Puppy boot directory.
Thanks

Hello to all and thank you, to all who did download LazY Puppy 2.0.1.
There have been 140 downloads of the EN-ISO and 79 downloads of the DE-ISO in the last two weeks. I am surprised on that.
So, unfortuantely i do have some bad news and some good news.
Bad news first:
LazY Puppy 2.0.1 is out of date. I am sorry about that, but there are some issues that has to be fixed. Also there are some issues with some sfs files (jack doesn't run in the LP2_AudioStudio.sfs for example).
The run-scripts are fine, so if an application doesn't run on menu entry, the run-script does (Run-Scripts button in the taskbar).
The good news is:
All known by me problems are fixed by now and i did re-work and test every sfs file (menu entry). This means, LazY Puppy 2.0.2 is on the way. LazY Puppy 2.0.2 will be Final LazY Puppy for a long time. I did post this already in the german thread, a few days ago.
I need to do some testings and if they are alright, then there would be nothing more to do for me. If there would be again a bug-fix needed (i don't belive that, currently), i will just post a .pet and the user now than can build his own LazY Puppy 2.0.3 updated version. It's now very simple and easy by the LazY Puppy Remaster Suite
All Run-Scripts are now able to run its program and submit a file to its program - so you can also build right-click options on the programs of run-scripts.
Example:
Right-Click open with VLC (mpeg file) tries to run VLC; loads the VLC sfs if program not available; downloads the sfs from the web if not already downloaded; loads the sfs; runs VLC and VLC plays the mpeg file.
SFS-Installer now has a batch function. All .pet files inside a directory can be converted to .sfs by right-click-action. All is done automatically . you just need to add the sfs-dependencies (almost none) and select the .desktop file to make a Run-Script of. So, you can convert a plenty of .pet files into .sfs in a few seconds.
Note: the better the .pet are made (.desktop file) the better works the LazY Puppy SFS P.L.U.S. wich builds the .sfs files and makes the Run-Scripts.
Remaster Suite has a new option to add files to the ISO (not into the system, only to the ISO).
LazY Puppy 2.0.2 System (05.06.2012):
100 SFS Files
- 10 of them are the LazY Puppy sfs suites(already there since 5.2.8-4, but updated)
- 90 single application sfs files (some of them containing several programs - like OO etc.)
Available Run-Scripts:
There are 226 Run-Scripts and every Run-Script executes a Program from inside the sfs So there are 226 programs available for LazY Puppy in 100 sfs files.
Some of the single sfs applications are also found inside a LazY Puppy sfs suite. Who does not want to use the sfs suites can hide the menu category or remove some menu entries from the menu using the LazY Puppy Menu Suite.
You do not need to downlaod any sfs, just run the application you want to use (Menu entry or Run-Script) and connect to the web. It downloads automatically to the LazY Puppy boot directory and runs after download.
This nice feature is possible only for one reason. The ability to upload my data to the server of smokey01. This way i can make direct links to the files an use a modified version of the ppm download_file script to use it for my own files to let you download them the easiest way it can be - no need to start a browser, not need to click "thousands" of links.
I again want to say "thank you" to smokey01.
So everyone, who will download Final LazY Puppy 2.0.2 (in a few days) and runs an application first time (and it does download to your system) do whisper or say: thank you smokey01.

Hello Gnuxo.
Thank you for your interest.
RSH
No, it is not stuck on Firefox 7. You can use a newer version of Firefox if available and stable. I do use Firefox 7 because i do use mostly (up to 95%) the forum only - other internet stuff is mostly not interesting to me and i trust to be save not to be attacked by the murga-forum. Also i do use no save file if i am online. So version 7 is save enough for me an my kind of use.Gnuxo wrote:Is it possible to update the version of firefox? Or is it stuck on 7?
In LazY Puppy 2.0.2 you can made easily a sfs out of every .pet and then making Run-Scipts etc.pp. (hope you did read the full information of LazY Puppy SFS P.L.U.S.). This feature is already available in LazY Puppy 2.0.1 but has some issues on the menu entries - the entry "Exec=" sometimes is not replaced by the Run-Script.Gnuxo wrote:Also I was wondering when newer versions of the programs such as Wine, VLC and Gimp would be made into .sfs

I have found pets of newer firefox (13) and seamonkey (2.10) in the lucid 528 update thread. I have downloaded and converted to LazY Puppy SFS - both seems to run fine.Gnuxo wrote:Is it possible to update the version of firefox? Or is it stuck on 7?

You can try this already on LazY Puppy 2.0.1. Just click on the .pet (as like to install) and choose "make sfs" instead of "install". The sfs is build then to /root (directory opens automatically). Just do move it to the install directory of LazY Puppy and run the run-script or use the menu entry (if added to the system on making the run-script).
Do you have a link to a newer version of gimp and vlc...
EDIT:
Currently posting from seamonkey 2.10.

The new VLC is already an sfs. It's in the multimedia section of the puppy forum.

Gimp 2.8 I can't find as a pet.
I'm hoping that it's requirements aren't too steep either.

I did test the vlc-2.0.0 sfs, but it is for racy. It runs in LazY Puppy, but plays only audio. Video-Codecs (avi, mpeg) are missing.Gnuxo wrote:The new VLC is already an sfs. It's in the multimedia section of the puppy forum.

I do have a vlc-1.1.10 .pet converted into LazY Puppy sfs file. Runs and works. Do you know of any vlc in between 1.1.10 and 2.0.0?

No, unfortunately.
Perhaps someone should make a .pet for the newest VLC, and have codecs as well.
I think for streaming on puppy, gstreamer is the way to go because it offers better compatibility with browsers then mplayer frontends.
Mplayer is good, but it doesn't handle many protocols and Gstreamer plugins are available through the various puppy, ubuntu and/or slacko repos so it's possible to get Gstreamer working on any puppy.
....Also, Gstreamer with all it's plugins is capable of playing anything that vlc can. And many Gstreamer frontends are lighter then Mplayer's.
Parole is a good example. It uses less ram then Gnome mplayer. Also works well with Midori. Gecko-mediaplayer always glitched when I would try to use it with midori. Parole's browser plugin makes midori seem like a more full featured browser.
I haven't tried it yet, but there is Gst123 which is a command line audio/video player based on gstreamer. It supposedly can play anything Gstreamer supports right from the console.
So, I was thinking about using linx2 along with gst123 to handle media playback. It would probably be super lightweight and effective. Linx2 can't do everything that a big browser can, especially logging into some social networks but for casual browsing linx2 is all one would need.
.pet for Links2:

There is no .pet for Gst123 though, I requested on but no one answered.
You can install parole on puppy, however you need .deb files.
There aren't any .pets that I know of. Especially for the browser plugin.

I have donwloaded links browser 2.6 and converted to LazY Puppy SFS - currently trying to make a post using the SFS. Seems to work fine so far. I hope, it will work also, if i do submit this message to the forum.
I did download the newest gst123 and try to compile - did fail because of missing gstreamer stuff.
It is needed to install the follwong files, before one can compile the gst123.
build-essential
libgstreamer0.10-dev
libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-dev
libgtk2.0-dev
libncurses-dev
The list is from here
I do currently not have the time to search for this files, but if you would collect them and upload somewhere that i can download, i would like to try to compile the gst123 and then build a links 2.6 sfs containing all files of gst123 - if compiling succeeds.

I usually go to pkgs.org for all sorts of .debs
They have everything.
Gst plugins good, bad and ugly as well as ffmpeg and the gstreamer plugin for ffmpeg will all allow for youtube streaming. Phonon plugin is also good.
I'll post a few links here for the direct downloads.
Plugins good: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m ... 2_i386.deb
Plugins Base:
http://ftp.br.debian.org/debian/pool/ma ... 1_i386.deb
Plugins Bad: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/u ... 1_i386.deb
Plugins ugly: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/u ... 1_i386.deb

Hi RSH and Everyone,
Is there a command for the terminal to check and see every dependence of an installed program?
What I want to do is create a Barebones well almost. All but the programs that I will be using. Was thinking to make all other programs SFS not sure though on how to do this.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

I think there's a menu entry that does that.
Menu>setup>check dependencies
Though I don't know if shows all the dependencies. You may have to look up each installed program online.
I recommend pkgs.org because they actually list all the dependencies for each program.
However that's not counting the default puppy apps because they are unique to puppy.
