USB3.0 support - how?

#422 Post by otropogo »

I've installed Lazypup to USBflash and configured the display on my monitors comfortably, albeit with a lot of monkeying, but am puzzled by the apparent lack of support for USB3.0 in Lazypup, although it uses the same kernel as Lucid 528.

Does anyone have an explanation or better, a fix? When I boot with lupu 528, with a USB3.0 reader attached to an expressbus USB3.0 adapter, the cards in the reader are immediately iconized on the desktop, and accessible. When I do the same with Lazypup, no icons appear, and Pmount doesn't show the flash cards either. I had thought that 2.6.33.2 had kernel support for USB 3.0, but maybe I'm mistaken?

If I am, is there an sfs or a pet that provides USB3.0 support for Lazypup?

adding wallpaper/background in Lazypup - how?

#423 Post by otropogo »

I've been trying to change the background on Lazypup via the Nathan wallpaper changer.

I'm able to do it for the session, but haven't been able to find a way to save the change or even to make the added images permanently available through Nathan.

I've tried putting them in /usr/share/backgrounds, but no cigar. I've also tried simply shutting down while the wallpaper I want is active, no luck there either.

internet-sfs, what does it do?

#424 Post by otropogo »

I've never loaded sfs files for apps into Puppy, so I approached the task in Lazypup a bit gingerly.

IIRC, I used the app downloader program to look at the offerings before deciding what browser to download, but all I found under the heading of "Internet" was lp2_internet.sfs. What does it do, and should I be looking elsewhere for browsers?

Is there a detailed description of all of the sfs files available online?

Lieber Herr RSH;
Even your fingers got hurt, your LaZy Puppy is much richer in many applications than any Puppy. I must guess that you have 12 fingers or more. :-).
And perhaps you don't work alone. heheheh
Hope you'll be well soon.

I'm glad to be the first who downlod LaZy Puppy from Mediafire, which is very fast.
There're so many apps. in the menu, the biggest list I can find in any computer. But the user wouldn't know which one is installed or has to be downloaded. Is it possible that only the installed app. has its icon and the others have either a download icon or none?
Or having a separate SFS install manager, this will markedly reduce the size of Menu list.

Everytime of restart there's will be Wine installed window and LaZy Puppy info, I think both should be ignored.

Load SFS file from Menu is very fast, but right-click to install is not, and have so many processes.

I found pet installed is not fast, especially when there's are many submenu, such as game collections. Sometimes it's take a few minutes to update Menu!
I have set Opera as a default browser. But the download with only use Firefox.
How to play Midi file in LaZy Puppy?
I can't use animation in XaraLx.
Pwidget works very inconsistently. Drive space and Space drives must be together to be showed.

In JWM;
-- Full screen of Opera 11.61 can freeze the system.
-- How can I add/remove item in taskbar? There're many GTK dialogs.
-- Clicking Mounted drive will show Puppy version which is unnecessary.

Viele Dank

7 Gods bless you.

Hello last saviour,

You are a super beta tester. I assume you're testing the latest version #3 in English linked on this page (md5sum ending in "626")?

Given your appetite for a variety of applications, I wonder whether you've also tried Knoppix 7.0.4 LiveDVD? It surely has the largest selection of bundled apps of any linux live distro.

It would be interesting to have a comparative review of your experience in installing and running the same apps under Lazypup and Knoppix.

And hurry, please. The Mayan doomsday is only a few weeks from now!

@otropogo

Sorry to hear about problems with changing the wallpaper. It works fine here. That's all I can say by now.

USB 3.0 does not to work here also. You do know? LazY Puppy is based on Lucid 528-4 not 528-5!

If you are trying to run a program from the menu, that is not already installed, it will be offered to download as sfs file from smokey01.com. There are single applications sfs files and there are also sfs suites, that contains several sfs files like the Internet.sfs, which contains firefox, opera, filezilla and some more.

In LazY Puppy Menu Guides there you will find full information of available single sfs files and also on the sfs suites. There are lots of informations that should be read first.

@the last saviour

No, I do have only ten fingers- just like the most of you do have (I asssume) and, no, I do work alone on LazY Puppy.

Yes the user doesn't know what is installed and what is not. But, as noted above, you can find lots of information on that in the Guides menu.

Yes, using the menu loading a sfs is quick, but this feature uses also sfs_load from shinobar (usage --cli --skip-fixmenus --quiet). Using it with right-click you have to confirm all sfs_load dialogues and/or info.

I'm not using jwm and I have kicked out the jwm in my private version - so, I can't give any help on jwm.

To play MIDI Files you need to download the LP2_TiMidity2130.sfs

Updating the menu takes such long time is not LazY Puppy specific. It is caused in fbpanel and fixmenus. You can see the cause of this at the end of the fixmenus script (/usr/sbin) - the more apps, the longer it takes to update (updating var icons).

If you don't want have the LazY Puppy Info and Wine Start/Info at every restart, move the files zz_run_lazyinfo and zz_run_portableapps to directory off - all are in /root/Startup.

Hi.

I forgot to mention:

In Menu LazY Puppy is a entry called RunScript-GUI or similar (icon can also be found in the fbpanel). This GUI contains all existing RunScripts. So this will show the user which applications are used as sfs files and are NOT installed.

To sort this out by having a look at the menu is surely impossible.

Lieber Herr RSH;
Many thanks for your advice.
My first time to hear midi music from Puppy. Very good sound, but can't load the whole folder with one click and can't enlarge the playlist window.

I have installed many SFS and found only LP2_SciPlore_MindMapping_Linux-015b.sfs can't be installed.
The remaster function is OK. But it lacked 2 important steps which found in other Puppy;
1. To separate the driver file, so there's are 2 big files instead of only one very big file. This is important, because SFS file need the contigunous area on the drive to be loaded. I experienced error many times on the flash drive which have not so much space left.
2. To use the new Puppy only with the current computer.

Viele dank. :lol:

Hello otropogo;
I don't think I am a super tester, just a normal end-user.
You have reminded me of Knoppix6.04 which I have downloaded 2 years ago. But I only enjoyed the Frozen bubble for a few times and then no more, 'cause there's no English menu and I can't stop that Deustch speaking. Recently I had just booted it again and found I can't play that game anymore. Perhaps it's because I have changed from CDRom to DVDRom!
I never download anything >1GB so the new version is not of my interest. And perhaps no English menu again?
Do you think Knoppix7 have more app. than Mint Maya?

As the last saviour, I don't afraid of any doomday or armageddon as seen in Youtube. If you believe that God will punish anyone who disturb the equilibrium in nature, you should believe that God will not let anyone or anything to destroy this world.

The asteroid belt is the debris resulting from Saturn destroyed after the God war. And the Trimurti had thrown many parts into the Universe. That the reason why every comet found in the Universe must come back to our solar system. So Gods won't allow those asteroids to destroy this world. Do you believe that the comet gets auto-combustion by the friction with the outer atmosphere?

For confirmation of the last saviour, just pray to your God to give the information of the last saviour in your dream.
:wink:

You want Knoppix with english menu and no Deustch voice? Then get the english iso for the DVD version. I know it is huge. I don't download it. I get it off Linux Magazine cover disk. The latest Knoppix version is on the current issue - although I guess it might not be available in Thailand.

To start the CD version without the voice it is necessary to boot as knoppix knoppix and not the default knoppix adriane.

The Knoppix DVD is always a good standby when Puppy does not have quite what you want - like Frozen Bubble!

Hi.

Could you please explain/complete the following:

- which Program did you use to play MIDI files
- any error messages if running SciPlore from the console

The lack of the function to create a zdrv.sfs is intended to make LazY Pupppy able to boot with any additional sfs you (I) want. For example: giving boot option lpextsfs=lpaudiostudio is booting LazY Puppy with the LP2_AudioStudio.sfs. You can find more information to this feature using the F-Keys (F2 - F6) before booting. You can also boot LazY Puppy with any sfs you want ---> just by giving the name ---> lpextsfs=MyApplicationsSFS.sfs

To remaster the LazY Puppy to use it only with the current computer use the radiobuttons (the 4th from top) at tab 2 in the Remaster Suite. You can use also 2nd radiobutton (from top). It then will give you the usually opened /tmp/root and /tmp/etc directories to work on and/or edit the contents of these directories. Please watch the tooltips of the LazY Remaster Suite GUI!

I have checked this out.

SciPlore Mindmapping needs the LP2_JDK16u29.sfs as a dependent sfs. Did you download it?

It will load then automatically if trying to run SciPlore (it knows about its dependent sfs file).

I'm sorry, but dependent sfs files are not automatically downloaded.

In the Guides Menu is a Help about the needed sfs files. Did you read the information? If not, here are the needed sfs files:

LP2_DevX.sfs
LP2_JackAudio034.sfs
LP2_JDK16u29.sfs
LP2_Python264.sfs

If you do download these files first then everything should work fine - also SciPlore! :D

All files has to go to the boot directory

Hi Artie,

thank you for trying LazY Puppy.

You can create a run-script just by doing a right click on the sfs file (first convert the sfs to LazY Puppy format by right click). You can also convert a .pet to sfs by right click action, if you don't have a sfs of opera.

Doing right clicks on sfs and/or pet files offers several options to do work on these files

Hello.

This one http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... h&id=62033 is a very useful and recommended update to LazY Puppy 2.0.3 Build 0.0.3.

It refines again the Remaster Suite and a new remaster, done by using this update, can run then completely from cd/dvd including all its sfs files. SFS files will load from cd/dvd without to confirm/click any "copy"-gui of lazy_sfs_load (which is used as default in the LazY Puppy RunScripts).

Install in a fresh system (RAM, no save file) and do a remaster immediately. To make a iso file do mount the bootpartition - otherwise you'll get only the new created StArtLPx2 sfs file.

RSH

NOTE! NOTE! NOTE!

Everyone who has downloaded LazYPuppy-202-DE-20121106-01.iso (or similar to that name) (I hope you didn't download) must download LazY Puppy again. The new name is LazYPuppy-202-DE-003.iso or LazYPuppy-202-EN-003.iso. There seems to be one or two bugs in LazY Puppy USB Installer and maybe in the Remaster Script.

We found this in the German forum.

Thanks

I am in Lazy version003 now and have installed Firefox 7
But that one is too old. They have FF17 now

How do you deal with such things? I mean if you don't want to use a save file and the FF 7 gets updated to 17 and you still have FF7 then it does not
save the FF17 as sfs and one have to update the FF7 to FF17 each time?

Hope you can include the Spotify into your uploaded sfs to just use
instead of all of us have to go through something we have never done before?

Sure I will try but then I have to do that with a pet for FF17 too
And not sure where to find that one. Is that for Lupu 528-005 I guess.

Okay The portable app for Spotify from that external site
how does one use that one in Lazy?
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though
