This is icewm compiled and tested in slacko-5.3.1

Just install the pet(s) and then exit to the prompt and enter
"xwin icewm" no quotes.

Thanks for this.

How do I change the configuration so it's like Icewm on Lucid Puppy? I just want to make it so when I'm looking at the menu, I don't have to click on the categories or subcategories to see the contents.

Is there a setting for that?

Also, how do I change the theme?

To make the menu items act like they do in Lucid you need to edit the
preferences file in /usr/share/icewm by uncommenting line 125 and
change the 0 to a 1 and then save the file.
Then copy the preferences file to the hidden .icewm directory in root.
(unhid the hidden directories in root by clicking on the eye at the
top of the window)

Change themes with the second from the bottom (just above logout) menu
entry.

Here is a link to a pet which has lots of themes for icewm, just
install it and you'll see many new themes available:

Thanks Billtoo! That did it.

Now what about the icons in the menu? There's only a few for some reason...

I'm not sure why that is but if you (while online) open the terminal and enter:

man icewm

It will open the web browser and take you to the icewm home page where there is a lot of help and other information about icewm, faq etc.

Sorry I'm a newbie, How do you select a theme from IceWM in Slacko Puppy?

I downloaded IceWM from here: http://puppylinux.org/wikka/icewm
and theme pack from here: http://puppylin.freehostia.com/icewm.htm

I don't see how i can switch from jwm to icewm. Please help...

With Ctrl+Alt+Backspace you kill the graphic server, it gives you a prompt in text mode (like the old DOS) there with:
# xwin icewm
launches icewm, if kill it again, with xwin jwm, comes back to jwm
You can have multiple windows managers, change them over the time and feel you have a new computer every day. :)

Enjoy.

Alright I killed the jwm and launched icewm (i think so) and I get a Windoes 95 style look. Can you explain what to do next? Like if you were doing it for the first time?

Thanks

Ok, right click on the desktop, Settings --> Themes
Change them to see one you like most.

My favorite it's Inyerman http://box-look.org/content/show.php/in ... ent=153905

In my Puppy, themes folders are in: /root/icewm/themes

Unzip one you like in that folder, restart icewm (again right click, Shutdown --> Restart IceWM) and your new theme will be there.

Good luck.

If you edit the file:
/root/icewm/preferences

you will be able to control most aspects for icewm.

Remenber, it's a linux rule that in all configuration files, a line starting with this symbol # it's ignored, so you must delete the # to make that line active.
In preferences, each option it's activated setting it to 1

Hi,

Does it work in Slacko 5.5 too ? :-)

sorry for the silly question, I just want to be sure I won't break anything...

Also, after the icewm install, is it possible to remove jwm so to remaster a clean puppy or the whole thing will break ? Is there a how-to document somewhere for this ? :-)

Many thanks for your work !

It's fairly easy to make a test.
Boot your Puppy with the pfix=ram parameter in the corespondent grub line (that's in case you use grub) and then install icewm pets and see if works.

Or, you can boot from the livecd (or usb) and do the same.

For the second question... sorry, I don't know.

Good luck.
