A Sunday afternoon of Puppy love

#1 Post by rmcellig »

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this, but here goes.

Over the past few weeks of discovering Puppy Linux 5.2.8 (I'm a newbie to Linux still), I have to say that you can get things done albeit maybe a little different than I am used to using my other Distro Ubuntu 10.04.

Every Sunday I host a Jazz radio station at The University of Ottawa, and every Sunday I have recorded my show (and a couple of others), on my Intel 24" iMac. Works great. I decided to try recording with various Linux distros such as Ubuntu, Mint and Zorin. They all worked fine.

I decided to take the plunge and try a distro that was not Debian or Ubuntu based. Hence, Puppy Linux 5.2.8. These are the tools I used successfuly on this Sunday afternoon.

- Using the arecord command, I have four scripts in the Pschedule task on time app that work great.

- Audacity is my audio editing app. Also worked great.

- tried gFTP to ftp my shows to my web site. No success with this app using port 22. I installed Filezilla and all is well. Not sure why gFTP didn't work.

- My playsheets are done using Googledocs. No problem there.

So far everything worked fine!

On another note, one thing I still need is a video editor such as Avidemux or something similar that will work in Puppy. Any recomendations other than Avidemux? I just need to save snippets of video quickly. On the Mac side, I use MPEG Streamclip which I absolutely love working with.

My iMac sees limited use now because I find most of my computer time is in the Linux world. Feels like Christmas every day so far!! :)

My site which was created using Yola.com is www.mcran.com

That is what I am hoping to do as I continue to read and search out how to do things in Puppy. Right now I am trying to find a way to change the look of the blue buttons to something else so I can see it clearer. I love the help I am getting on the Puppy forum!
