Full LVM support in kernel

#1 Post by djlink »

Hi!

I’m interested on use PuppyLinux in a cluster environment. LVM2 support in this area is very important. The modular concept model of puppy (separated packages) is extremely useful, and each user can configure his personal environment very easy.

But this modularity isn’t available for KERNEL MODULES (recompiling a custom kernel for Puppy is a nightmare). The kernel configuration is omitting several not common drivers (but very interesting). One example:

CONFIG_DM_CRYPT=m
# CONFIG_DM_SNAPSHOT is not set
# CONFIG_DM_MIRROR is not set
# CONFIG_DM_ZERO is not set
# CONFIG_DM_MULTIPATH is not set
# CONFIG_DM_DELAY is not set
# CONFIG_DM_UEVENT is not set

As you can see DM_MIRROR isn’t supported by the kernel. But hot moving a “live

I too would welcome this as we could use Puppy in places where another distro (slackware) is required.

Any news on LVM for Puppy v4?

Anybody dare copy the Slackware kernel to their Puppy partition?

;)
