installing puppy linux on a flash drive
installing puppy linux on a flash drive
I am attempting to install puppy on a 4GB flash drive that I formatted to ext 3 file system. I normally use linx Mint and I discovered a program named UNetbootin and it extracted the files from the iso into my usb flash drive. It also created the boot loader. However, when I try to boot up from the desktop computer or with our new laptop with the flash drive, I am told that the usb drive is either missing the operating system or I am told that the NTLDR is missing. Can someone please tell me if I am missing something obvious here because I am pulling out my hair. Thank you for any assistance.)
Did you make the flash drive bootable?
You can do this using gparted (menu>partition>manage flags), but without puppy running, there's no gparted...

Yes, i can not see any reason, why this should not get done this way.
menu>partition>manage flags and then set the "boot" or "bootable" option.

maybe i have overseen that, but i do not know what puppy you use. in some linux's the checkbox-buttons look like ticked unless you select (not tick) it - than the truth comes out and shows you - not ticked.

Yes, as far as i know. I take a look to find out what kernel is used in 5.3.1.
Is it the version i have asked in my post?
if i remember correctly it has the kernel 3.1 - i search for it.

Have found it here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=74885
It says "Kernel : Linux 3.1.0 (x86_64)" wich means one of the newest kernels (kennels - don't know the right word in english - have read both) and: 64 BIT OS
Do you have a 64 bit mainboard/hardware?
x86_64 i have almost/always seen described as AMD 64bit processor.
Maybe this is it?

Try this
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=74544
it is new (released 03.01.2012) small (<200mb) and smart (easy sfs load and much of sfs and programs inside the sfs's)
RSH

Re: installing puppy linux on a flash drive
I haven't has much luck with UNetbootin, I have had a few work, but Unetbootin has its own boot loader as does puppy. I am not sure if that has anything to do with it but something to note.daddyo wrote:I am attempting to install puppy on a 4GB flash drive that I formatted to ext 3 file system.
