pemasu, I'll attach the latest 3.2x build kit. Where I want to go with this is make it so you can choose version, suffix etc instead of hacking the script and download and install FWs.

We have a sane build now and kernel source! Works fine with stock woof 3builddistro.

Rather than wait for the next Alpha, I downloaded the kernel sources and compiled the nvidia 173.14.31 driver.

It installed easily. The run script gives you the option of automatically changing xorg.conf.

Much improved performance, ca. 1270 fps with glx-gears as compared to ca.140 fps with vesa-mesa.

This is quite a relief as I was afraid my old friend AMD Athlon XP/MP (Barton) with an nvidia GeForce FX 5200 was not going to make the transition to kernel 3x.

Alpha 5, like Alpha 4, boots to a screen without menus. Downloaded and installed the mesa-7.10.2-s.pet as suggested and then attempted to switch to vesa via xorgwizard as I had before in Alpha 4.

This time the experiment was not successful. Selecting vesa in the xorgwizard produced a black screen. Rebooting installed vesa, but no menus!

I copied my Alpha 4 mesa-vesa save file to the Alpha 5 directory and rebooted. The save file updated nicely and produced fine menus.

I installed the Alpha 5 devx and kernel source sfs-files and successfully compiled the nvidia 173.14.31 driver. Under Alpha 5, the card is considerably faster: glx-gears ca. 2490 fps as compared to 1270 fps with Alpha 4, but the situation remains rather problematic.

Hi 01micko,

Congrats again. Slacko 5.3.1.5 employing the 3.2.2 kernel runs fine on Quad-Core Phenom II X4 920 with Ati Radeon 3100 graphics, using RaLink RT2561/RT61 PCI 802.11 g wifi.

Unpacked ISO to Slacko directory after moving 5.3.1.4 into protected folder. Booted w/o problems to desktop, set up wifi and shut down, creating a SaveFile. Booted into Lupu & copied 5.3.1.4's SaveFile into Slacko directory and rebooted, selecting that SaveFile from given choices. SaveFile updated. Only had to remove unwanted desktop icons.

By-the-bye, my SaveFile does not include applications ordinarily included in Slacko, so I'm not overwriting newer versions with older.

Before switching to 5.3.1.5, I took the time to do some experimenting. Someone should have told me that Slacko handles Slackware txz files about as easily as Lupu handle's Ubuntu debs.('') I thought I'd have to learn how to compile. ('').

Hi 01micko,

I upgraded my Multi-session live CD/DVD from 5.3.1 to 5.3.1.5 (MD5 sum verified) and I have one serious problem in that my internet connection had failed and I did not manage to get reconnected.

If this is an isolated occurrence I'm delighted with 5.3.1 so I will not mind if you don't have time to fix it - as you should put your college work first.

I very much liked that the "fixmenus" command now seemed to be super fast.

I did try to load the latest version of sfs Opera and and also a linux portable version of it made by stu90 and neither would load (they both work in 5.3.1 though in both cases there is an apparently spurious error message on unloading. However, it is not personally important to me (Terryphi, who made the sfs conjectured Xorg 7.6 may be the problem in 5.3.1).

I did also loose some JWM settings and a theme, perhaps due to the JWM upgrade, but I'm fairly certain I could easily fix those.

Thanks russoodle, for your report. I gave up too fast for 5.3.1.3, thinking it was because another kernel.

Now I can report that compiz works on my old Gericom with 5.3.1.4 and 5.3.1.5. For me a good reason to test more.

Hi Mick,

Manual frugal installation on an ext4 partition. Boots fine, however the wireless Logitech mouse still does not work.

Installation on Dell Inspiron laptop boots fine, the mousepad does work although wireless Logitech mouse will not work. Wifi connection does not recognize any wifi capability. Same problem that was corrected with an earlier release. Attached is a sys-info report. Are there any error logs that may be helpful in determining Logitech mouse problem? EDIT: Upgrading a beta 3 save file had the same problems (boots fine, but no mouse and no wifi).

With 5.3.1.5 my iMac wirless does not work anymore with any of the 4 firmware versions (4.178.14.4, 5.10.65, 5.10.143.3 and 5.100.138) I tried
The other thing was that updating the XO version from 5.3.1.3 resulted in a frozen mouse, though on a fresh install was OK. Removing /etc/mouse* from the savefile fixed this.
This brings another issue now that RC/final is approaching. Update from 5.3.1 should be as trouble free as possible for the "normal" users.
Maybe the 5.3.1.4 kernel is a better choice.
