James, what clockspeed is the Coppermine? My old one was 600MHz and early slacko alphas ran fine on it, then it died when I got a power surge in my shed, took out my K6-350 too, the 80486DX50 survived .. but is a bit too old for slacko!

This box is a blazing 733 MHz....... 256 Mb of ram and 1 Gb swap.Got another old 500 MHz Coppermine I may grab off the shelf, could be interesting.... it's only got 128 Mb of ram.01micko wrote:James, what clockspeed is the Coppermine? Should just fit! (ah, but video RAM if shared might cause the cd to stay mounted)James C wrote: -Computer-

GL/gl.h missing
Hi Mick,
5.3.1.2 updated my VM from 5.3.1 with no issue other than that the wallpaper really looks bad in 16bit screen depth.
However the devx looks like is missing gl.h headers.
Compiling the chrome video driver I get
PS: another little thing. SFS_load does not know that you are using JWM 2.1.1 and restarting instead of reloading it.
PPS: Though not formally tested it, savefile to a(n etx3) USB stick appears to take unusually long time. Any changes in snapmerge?

There are some updates, to some of the programs, usually included in Puppy versions.feature requests
Updating these programs would be good.
Barry has, on his blog, information about bug fix and changes he has made.
Not sure if these would be changes you would want to make.
Every Puppy version should have this.

For people who like a lot of programs that do the same thing. An easy way to change the default program.

Like the 3.1.9 Kernel
Hi 01micko &all,
Posting from Slacko 5.3.2-alpha2 with the 3.1.9 kernel. Amd Phenom II X945 using Ati Radeon 3100 Graphics. No problems so far. It is reassuring to know that this Slacko will run well on this system. Puppies using other series 3 kernels, while they run, generate bars or rectangles obscuring the input fields of dialog boxes.
Perhaps the 3.1.8 might have. Thanks for not posting a link at the end of Slacko 3.5 to alert potential testers of a new version. It took me five days to stumble upon the new version. Probably saved me a lot of grief.('')

Edit: ('') Very likely saved me a lot of grief. I just tried the Lupu using the 3.1.8 kernel and couldn't wirelessly connect to the internet: SNS couldn't find my card; Network wizard couldn't connect; and the latest Frisbee for Lupu wouldn't run. I guess things worked out for the best.

Re: GL/gl.h missing
I instantly thought that is part of the mesa headers package (mesa_DEV) and it is and always has beenmavrothal wrote: However the devx looks like is missing gl.h headers.

I wonder who removed mesa from my install between the 5.3.1 to 5.3.1.2 update

The old Coppermine will have to wait, Slacko 5.3.1.2 live pfix=ram on another box off the shelf.

Booted straight to desktop with network connection and sound present.Something seems to have changed in the sound dept' for me.
I always have main speakers and headphones working together but this wont allow that(one or the other but not both) no matter how much messing about in Retrovol.
Everything else so far looking fine.
Edit
Gnome Mplayer doesn't start.

UMplayer from the PPM does 'NOT' display the thumbnail graphics in the 2nd window after a youtube search... yes, you can still click on the video you want and it will play. Maybe needs qt4 UMplayer?

Thank you for all the hard work that you've put into Lucid and Slacko as well as many other fine contributions. I've been amazed at how much you've been able to accomplish and your programming skills that are apparently self-taught.01micko wrote:. . . FYI, I am now retired from the construction industry and am starting study (fulltime) next week, so Slacko dev has to be pretty much wound up before then as I wont have time for in depth development. . .
Best wishes on your further studies.

Jim
You're welcome Jim and thanks to you for your great support. Without you and many like you (you all know who you are ) there'd be no Slacko.Jim1911 wrote:Thank you for all the hard work that you've put into Lucid and Slacko as well as many other fine contributions. Just to clarify, the next release will likely be the last one before Slackware bumps version. I wont have the time for full on development, but I will still be around. I have 6 months of solid study coming up so I will be a little quiet. By then I expect Slackware will have updated and a new dev cycle can begin.
I have a week to get things into shape for the next release. I think they are shaping up nicely so if I can get to RC in that week I'll be happy.

Slacko 5.3.3-alpha3 ..testing (5.3.1.3)
I'm running the live dvd with a save file.
On first bootup it went straight to the desktop and the screen
resolution, wired network, and sound were all good.
I installed the devx + kernel source + NVIDIA-Linux-x86-275.43.run
I installed avplayersj2-slacko-i686.sfs too

The CPU frequency scaling utility isn't working.
I needed an extra reboot to compile the proprietary Nvidia driver
because of the nouveau driver.
That's it so far.
