New to this OS. After a couple of failed Skype install attempts, was wondering which version and download site I should go to for the best chance of success?

I guess I belong in the How-to forum then. I didn't have much luck decompressing their file to the root.

You can try this. I also posted a build script somewhere, but there's a number of versions posted if you search.

decompress with: "tar -xvjf package"

However, please note that it has not been tested on Pupeee. There is a list of Puppy variants it definitely works on.

Success with the sfs version you steered me to. Not sure how it all happened, though... I downloaded the file. Couldn't find it in bootmanager, so did a little file exploration and found a Skype folder under mnt/home with what appeared to be a run icon in it. I dragged the icon to the desktop and it opens up Skype successfully.

another way to do it is simple (this is only info for other people reading this thread)

the best way to do it is to use the package manager to search for it, from there you can install pretty much automatically.

You will find the Skype in Linux much more reliable than the windows version!!!
