Subject description: how to get full control of HP printer?

Gday All,

I have been happily using puppy 4.2.1 USB on IBM T60 laptop.

Just now moved to lupu-5.2.8 USB same machine.
My printer is a USB connected HP PSC 1355
This printer works perfectly with puppy 4.2.1 including the full functionality provided by the complete HPLIP package and associated dependencies.

Under lupu-5.2.8 the printer works - but I cannot get the full HP functionality (hp-toolbox etc) like I did previously.

Per the instructions on http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=27519 I have applied the following packages - in this order:

1. tcl-8.5a4nothreads.pet
2. tk-8.5a4nothreads.pet
3. Python-2.5.2.pet
4. libnetsnmp-15.pet

5. hplip_dependencies.pet
6. hplip-3.9.2.pet
7. hpijs-3.10.2-dynppd.pet

I have also executed the hplipfull.install script which is created.

All installs report success - and I get a HP device manager menu item under the Utilities group.

However, when I try to run this menu item (or any of the underlying python scripts) I get the error message:

warning: python-dbus not installed
warning: hp-toolbox should not be run as root/user

error: PyQt not installed. GUI not available. Exiting

It appears that there is some other requirement relating to python and/or Qt which is need for this to work.

Could someone please advise what additional steps are required for me to have the same functionality in lupu-5.2.8 as I had under 4.2.1

Thanks

mmm..... no ideas from anybody? I've attached a screen print of the error in case that might prompt any ideas.

I know there is an answer - I was just hoping that I might be able to leverage someone else's experience and not have to spend several weeks investigating myself - especially since I don't really understand what I am doing!

Thanks

Looking at the error message it looks like you need Python and Qt bits installed-

python-dbus

PyQt

Maybe start another thread asking about them - as I'm not sure how to acquire them

also don't know if you check these threads-
