MD5 check on Lucid or Slacko? (solved)

#1 Post by mini-jaguar »

I seem to be using these Puppies more and more these days, but I can't find anything that does MD5 checksums of files.

Could be something in there but I can't find it.

If there's nothing in there, at least point me to a .pet that does this.

no program-- just a terminal command.

http://puppylinux.org/wikka/md5sum
How to use

1. In Puppy or Linux go to the directory where the iso is located.
2. Open a console there (in Puppy right click Window / Terminal here)
3. Type in md5sum name_of_file.iso
4. Press return
also a tool here:

Firefox users may be interested in this extension (especially if fx is used for downloading files):

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ed-hasher/
About this Add-on

You don't know if a file you just have downloaded is corrupted or not. If the originator of the file provides a checksum (hash total), this extension can calculate the checksum of the downloaded file and by comparing it with the original checksum (for now, you must manually copy and paste it), check if the file has been corrupted.

This extension can calculate MD2, MD5, SHA1, SHA256, SHA384 or SHA512 checksums of downloaded files.

MD5 check on Lucid or Slacko?

Hi mini-jaguar,

I posted about an alternative MD5 sums checker here. It is a cross-platform program that requires no installation --I put it in My-Applications folder.

Yes indeed, but only in Lucid. I've also figured out that Lucid generally has better file utilities, not only that and Search Monkey, but also the xarchiver opens .rar files, which only opens .zip files (and maybe some others but not .rar) in Slacko.

the following thread may be of interest to you

pet adds gtkhash + search monkey ++, you could request xarch features.
