charlie6. I dont have straight answer. Are you sure that your used isos had correct md5sum`s and the media you used was not defective. Did you copy stuff to and from usb stick ?
Of course there could be something incompatible with my kernel....but I havent got previously non booting reports. I dont have PAE kernel which has been sometimes incompatible with older hw.
I dont have dual core P4 to test....one old P4 single core desktop I do have though. I will test the booting in it anyway. I wouldnt like to change my kernel specs for this kernel version. There has been done so much work with now.....

PostPosted: Sat 14 Jul 2012, 12:47    Post subject: Re-upload of Broadcom "5-6" package for safety

pemasu, peebee,
After I shut down last night, I decided to back off about moving firmware to ensure the Broadcom-wifi implementation avoids the "shutdown hang." I have now revised the "5-6" package to not do the move, but to switch to b43 only if the firmware is already in /lib/firmware. So, if the firmware is not present, the instant switching will not take place, although the switch will occur, as before, at the next boot-up.

Please be sure to use the updated package for inclusion in exprimo or precise. That will allow us to sleep better, with the hang hazard avoided.
Richard

Thanks rerwin and thanks James C. Exclusive testing with your comps. I am posting this from old P4 comp: it looks like to be P4 dual core after all...
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
Socket Designation: XU1 PROCESSOR
Current Speed of Core 0: 2992 MHz, Core 1: 2992 MHz
Mem: 1025572

Seems to boot ok. This is my youngest son comp. It has linux os and lcd tv as screen. I booted from usb stick 5.X.3.4.2.4.

I have been this day in witch festival. Our village burned witch 1643...and there is nowadays some kind witch festival. Our village centrum is full of stands...sellers...bands...different kind of shows. A lot of tourists also. Our ski club had cafe there and I was doing my job. I have been whole day there.
It will go to tomorrow before I start to update woof....

Menu>Setup>Exprimo Updater.

I had seen "Update..." functions in Puppyland before such as TaZoC's LH64, where on the desktop when clicked, it will operate to update the running system (under your control).

I had not seen any documentation on this Exprimo utility. When I click on it, there is no apparent activity on the desktop. Any explanation would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Gcmartin. When you click that Dpup Exprimo Updater...it checks from the exprimo repo if there is update for that release. If....I would stay with one kernel version....I could push updates...like repo database updates...other system script updates...whatever and it would be downloaded and installed.

Because I have moved from version to other version...there hasnt been much need for it. And....I have also neglected the usage of it. I am still only one single person which switches from different build to an other.

If you dont get any visible information by dialog that it checks the repo....there is something wrong with something. I just checked. It checks the repo for me. And does not find update, lol.

To Pemasu...

Does the script resizepfile.sh need to be modified to make it
fit a screen that is only 480 pixels high??

Don570. It might be useful...I just made one simple trial by just modifying to content. Now it is visible in 640x480. If you want to give it better go...please go on....

Thanks @Pemasu.

The desktop message was popping underneath a running desktop window, and, I did not see the message until now. "I missed the resulting message".

Sorry for that report. And, Thanks for the explanation. I suspected that its purpose was as you describe. THX
BTW, the system ONLY has JRE installed at this time. And has NOT been rebooted for any reason...yet.

Gcmartin. It seems that the ping in the script does not work for you. You seemed to be in the same class with James C who also needs for ping the ipv4 definition:
ping -4 -c 1 174.132.189.156 # that is for smokey01.com repo ping

I will update the stu90 script: dpup-update. You never know if I start to use it.

HI Pemasu,
Thanks a lot for your efforts in developing Exprimo, the best puplet I've found so far.
i've notice that Bluetooth 0.5 works fine until release 3.4.2, and stops working in versions 3.4.2.2. and 3.4.2.4., this happens on both my laptops (Sony Vaio and HP 2530p).
What's happens?

I install only bluetooth-0.5.pet and this is sufficient to make Bluetooth working (I use Bluetooth to operate a wireless mouse).

Thank you again

Fabio

I believe I know the reason. I tested the simpler dbus system initialization script by Iguleder and It looked like to work ok. So I changed the previous, probably debian one to that simpler one. But...when I tested bluetooth pet and lauched it from console...it complained about dbus, system dbus.
So I switched the dbus script back to the earlier one and now it works.

Install the pet and reboot. The /etc/init.d/dbus script is best initialized by reboot and also the previous dbus session has been eliminated and also /etc/init.d/bluetooth script will be started by reboot.

(ref 5X3426 install on intel PIV dual core HP desktop tower)

Indeed there would be something wrong here as:
- next on another dual core PIV Dell 620 laptop, install from CD went OK.
As a way of living
- Isos are checked upon each download.

- in the presented PIV dual core HP desktop tower case, stuffs were copied from an usb stick vfat formated (as i am used to do); md5sums of the copies match the original
- bootup from cd went OK. But failed to create a squeezesave file upon reboot or shutdown:
nothing happens once CONTINUE is choosen upon choice «continue» or «abort» .
(once there i did:
- doing Ctrl-Alt-Backspace does nothing;
- doing Ctrl-Alt-Del returns
Quote:
dpup-exprimo is now shutting down
but nothing more next;
- doing one of Ctrl-Alt-F1 or Ctrl-Alt-F2 or Ctrl-Alt-F3 or Ctrl-Alt-F4 (don't remember which) brougt:
Quote:
puppy login:

then get the command line mode after login (root and woofwoof);
entered there
Quote:
# shutdown
===> nothing
===> gave up Crying or Very sad ===> force poweroff pressing the power switch > 6 seconds. )
- then e2fsck'ed ( command: # e2fsck -p /dev/sda8 ) the sda8 partition which was reported as «clean» after repair, rebooted but no change.

nb: currently posting from 5X14 which folder lies beside the one having 5X3426 on the same sda8 ext3 partition (size 11GB free 7.5GB) Question
