I noticed that -r option when I looked thru pmusic options in terminal
but I found that it doesn't work that well.
Too much junk is added.
That's why I spent the time to develop this method instead.

shinobar - I tried your pet with a new live cd of dpup exprimo 5x4.3.2.8
and got the same results when i tried rerwins fix for precise alpha.
The original iso was 137mb and the remastered iso was 43mb.
I must be doing something wrong. Neither works for me. The screen where it is creating 4.0 file system on mnt/xxxxx/puppylivecdbuild went by so fast was unable to read it. Entire remaster process was just under four minutes. |
Confirmed.
It is a mystery in some case(rerwin) it works and doesn't in another case(majorfoo and shinobar). But the cause is the '-wildcards' option of the mksquashfs.
UPDATE: remasterpup2-20120721.pet
http://shino.pos.to/linux/puppy/
#120721 avoid wildcards option introduded in 120605 (thanks to majorfoo ), remove /usr/share/icons/hicolor/icon-theme.cache |
Received PM from rerwin to try following:
boot fresh copy of dpup exprimo 5.x.3.4.2.8
Install precise_rerwin_fixes-1.pet mentioned earlier
install shinobar's remasterpup2-20120721
run remaster process.
I did not make any changes to /root in/tmp directory
I did not make any changes to /etc in /tmp directory
Remaster completed without any problems.
Remastered cd booted to desktop, however did not remove quick start. Also, remastered cd did not stop save on shutdown.
booted again with fresh copy of dpup exprimo 5.x.3.4.2.8
Install precise_rerwin_fixes-1.pet mentioned earlier
install shinobar's remasterpup2-20120721
run remaster process.
This time I removed /root in /tmp directory and copied /root to /tmp
I also removed /etc from /tmp directory and copied /etc to /tmp
Remaster completed without any problems
Remastered cd booted to desktop and did not display quick start
On shutdown, did not ask to save.
Above gives user choice on how the remastered cd will function.
Rerwin advised he working on rerwin_fixes-2.pet and will be posted soon.
Many thanks to peamesu, rerwin, shinobar and others for all the hard work on this and other puppies.

What for the precise_rerwin_fixes-1.pet?
I did expect the precise_rerwin_fixes-1.pet and followed your remaster proccess. Remastered cd booted to desktop and did not display quick start. And on shutdown, it asked to save.
EDIT: I see no ask to save is the function of the rerwin's fix, and is no problem if it is what you intended.
You need to enter 'puppy pfix=ram' at booting cd if you have any dpup install on hdd.

pemasu, shinobar, majorfoo,
I have updated my posting in the precise_pup thread:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=633525#633525
to correct remasterpup2 and add the latest fixes relevant to woof going forward. The update (precise_rerwin_fixes-2) accomplishes the same as the fixes-1 plus shinobar's remasterpup2 packages.
| shinobar wrote: | | What for the precise_rerwin_fixes-1.pet? | For the "boot disk" remaster, remasterpup2 merely sets 2 indicators to suppress quickstart and the pupsave prompt. The "fixes" package also contains the scripts (delayedrun & rc.shutdown) that check those indicators and perform their function.
(I omitted the rodin.s mod because I see no benefit from using the internal file instead of the official interface (mount); omitted the pupmessage internal procedure because it appears to be only for backward compatibility, whereas woof is for newer puppies and contains pupmessage.)

@ pemasu
I asked about write/read speed with USB flash earlier. I can answer my own question now, partly:
Many (cheap) flash memories are inherently slow if compared to HD and writing can be slower than reading by a factor 10 or more. That could explain why saving squeeze.sfs takes longer than reading it.
I'm using a cheapo micro SD now. Probably not the fastest. It also appears that micro SD's are generally slower than "normal" SD's.
I'm now looking into faster (more expensive) flash memories of SDHC Class 10/U1 specification, some of which should be able to read/write at around 45Mbps.

Depending on the storage capacity 6x class (speed) micro-SD cards are cheap e.g. $5.99 for a 4GB
6x may be enough or you can go up to 10x at a reasonable cost - price also increasing if you require more storage.
I am guessing there is a similar system re. speed for USB sticks but I have not looked at them for a while.

Any user of Exprimo have success playing music at http://grooveshark.com ? I get the message that Flash appears to be blocked, but I have not activated the flashblocker, and am using a pristine session of Exprimo. Yes, I have installed libflashplayer.so
The reason I have burnt this version is because an earlier version stopped playing Flash after I mistakenly installed flashblocker. Although I almost immediately uninstalled it, flashblocker seems to have left behind some contamination in that save file as there is nothing I can do to bring back success with grooveshark.
So I downloaded this latest version of Exprimo, booted with pfix=ram and installer the flash player lib and still it won't play Flash audio at grooveshark. I'm beginning to wonder whether the grooveshark site might not actually be working.
Anyone able to play music at that site?

I dont have any problems with playing grooveshark. I used Firefox 14.01.... Flasblock was not activated and I had installed the latest available version of libflashplayer.so ie 11.2.202.236 using GetFlash from menu.
So...my preinstalled Flashblock...if not not activated... does not inhibit the usage of Grooveshark for me.

While we are on the matter of Flash has anyone addressed the path for Linux users now that Adobe has EOL'd Flash for Linux?
What happens when apps for MS & Apple move to a newer version of Flash and none is available for Linux?
Perhaps we need to stop using Flash-dependent apps and find alternatives?

Thanks, that's good to know!
So I tried installing an older version of libflashplayer.so and all is well! So that's two pups where I had installed the latest libflashplayer with the result that flash stopped working. (I didn't recognize that it stopped working after I upgraded, but that's probably what happened.) I am using an old PIII so maybe it doesn't like the latest.

I you slum on Facebook you will have trouble with some of the video, I think a couple of other major online sites requires the latest Flash.
Is it Grooveshark-specific?
Or Grooveshark + browser-specific?

In above link and in links in that post is more information about flashplayer incompatible problems when using older version of libflashplayer and comments about PIII and incompatibility with newer libflashplayers.
It might be that Firefox or site recognizes the usage of older....insecure version and the result is that older libflashplayer might not work.
So....there seems to be problems already....and I am sure they wont diminish in the future...when the sites starts to ask newer libflashplayer that linux can offer...or even Firefox notices the insecure version and declines the usage of it.....

Is anything being done in the Linux world to bridge the gap or will Linux users have been deliberately-orphaned by the Adobe-monopoly (re. Flash) until developers relegate Flash (via HTML5) to the long-overdue trash-heap of tech history?
Why would Adobe mistreat 10's of millions of Linux users this way?
In Europe and elsewhere many government systems use Linux- what will they do about Flash-dependent site access?
Linux users tend to have long memories for vendors who abuse them and many are decision-makers in government and industry.

Pemasu, the "tap" on synaptics touchpad is not working on my netbook.
Have tried all the synaptic tricks e.g option tapbutton "1" etc, that I have on a piece of paper and cannot get it to tap, very frustrating having to use the enter key.
On a different note, why is the video 30% faster in GLX gears than any other distro?
Get an average of 6500 frames from Racy53, Slacko thin+fat, Saluki 23, 3HD, and this one is up to 9700 frames.
Are you using some form of acceleration in this distro (I noticed performance mode kicking in off the cd, but not sure what it is ?
