rhadon you are a winner
I did not get to a confirmed order
I was there on time if not 4 hours early (I might have fallen asleep so had to stay awake)
I went through that announcement page in seconds looking for somewhere to order . . .
and clicked both ordering addresses - the industrial servers were already gridlocked
within 20 to 30 seconds of the Rpi announcement.
I will have to wait with the fishes . . .

I hope so, but I'm not sure.Lobster wrote:rhadon you are a winner

It's a problem of the language. I didn't know the right english word.
confirmed order = Auftragsbestätigung.
What I got was a "Auftragseingangsbestätigung" with a commission number, which only means that they received my order. If the products are really available, I get a 'right' order confirmation. So I'm as cute as before
Hoping and waiting and waiting and hoping...
Although I know it's not so important (life goes on), for a long time I wasn't so excited about an order.

Ich verwende "frugal", und das ist gut so.
Raspberry Pi without Puppy? No, thanks.

I ordered here:
http://au.element14.com/jsp/search/prod ... KU=2081185
I even paid for it, but delivery is estimated about a month away. This is for Australia, price including delivery is AU$41.80.
If you are in New Zealand, just change "au" to "nz".

I could not get to the order stage and I wonder if it is because I am using
ghostery and no redirect plugin for Seamonkey
- not something I normally do . . . ah well . . .
Even so we were promised free development boards
I am loath to chase the Rpi foundation up as they are no doubt
exhausted. I was trying to follow on twitter and it was trending
and information overload ensued . . .
I'll let the fruit settle and try again to get what is
undoubtedly the must have geekery for the confirmed penguin.
Congratulations to everyone who got an order.
I ordered from element14 too, I thought I was within the first hour (and I also paid) ...BarryK wrote:I ordered here:

The 6AM start was easy as I am currently in Asia.
For whatever reason they sent me the confirmation and estimated date this morning ...
And it is stated as the end of April or later.
I remember when we were working to a November time frame.
I ported murgaLua over in hours, and was all ready to go.
I really hope that this is the success that I believe that it deserves to be ...
But at the personal level I am disappointed in how the fans expectations have been handled, and how the launch was made ...
Many of us faithful followers didn't have a chance.
Anyway, by the time it arrives I will have forgotten all about it, so it'll be a nice surprise
Cheers

Yea....it has one input - a coax connector for cable style...JohnMurga wrote: You don't have a TV somewhere ?
Also has jacks fror VCR/DVD Player.
Are the jacks the RCA output mentioned?
I have not watched TV in at least 10 years...so mine might have button hooks and I would not know if they were left or right handed threads.

Tee hee. Were the early clickers left for howling? Too cruelMany of us faithful followers didn't have a chance.
Raspberry Pi is a small foundation - not a billion dollar corp.
They have done well to generate such astonishing interest.
Was on the BBC 6PM news yesterday.
What Rpi have done, very kindly is allowed everyone worldwide
to have access to the hardware. In fact when someone said,
'what if someone steals and clones your idea?' Eben Uptons response was,
'Great!'
What may have happened is servers in other parts of the world
did not go down and so people were able to move beyond 'Express an interest'
- which I have now done twice for each supplier.
Good to hear from John - what adventures he is having travelling the world
Having murgaLua on PARM would be great. The language was in several versions
of Puppy. Yep we have supported tcl (pronounced tickle) PuppyBasic
(there really is such a language) and all manner of BASIC's
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/PuppyBasic
We have to have an 'ARM development environment' and Barryk has an Rpi on order
(as well as two other ARM boards).
Others will be taunting us when their boards arrive
and they get to run any ISO's Puppy produces
========
and now an interlude for some Buddha Dharma
The Buddha said that'desire is the source of all suffering.' [by not anon. (Not recently.)]
and also said:
We all feel - desire, anger, sorrow etcThousands of candles can be lit from a single candle,
and the life of the candle will not be shortened.
Happiness never decreases by being shared.
It is what we do with it . . .
Desire and excitement for Rpi arises
and (we Buddhists) let it go
We don't hang on to it and let it dominate our own
well being . . .
When I get a Pi, I will put YAP on it
and worship hounds

==========
Guys, this year we go ARM
Next year we will need tablets (me more than most)
and maybe the year after we will be ready for Puppy Pandroid Phone
The PI has HDMI for newer TVs (high res, etc).tlchost wrote:Yea....it has one input - a coax connector for cable style...JohnMurga wrote: You don't have a TV somewhere ?

For older TVs ... The video jacks are going to be one of the following :
What the PI has : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composite_video
European TVs : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCART
Other TVs : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-Video
Adapters from composite/RCA to SCART or S-VIDEO are a couple of bucks.
Part of the point for me is that you should be able to plug it into pretty much any TV, which means that many families may be able to use it.
Cheers

Yes, but what can I do with it if I buy one?
Can it run Puppy?
Can I use it with a TV card?
An external USB HDD or Flash Drive?
How many USB sockets does it have?
I'd like to use my "smart" 32-inch Sony TV as a monitor [HDMI connected] with a new/small PC, and record, rewind, fast-forward TV programs.
Is it too advanced for me?

I don't know, is it ?Sylvander wrote:Yes, but what can I do with it if I buy one?

By the time you get it, you should be able to yes, right now it would be Fedora or Debian.
Can I use it with a TV card?
You can use it with a TV card (to see the output on your PC)
But if you mean use a TV card with it, to record/view TV ...
That may be possible (something that I don't think has been tried yet).
Recording may be asking too much (realtime video compression).
An external USB HDD or Flash Drive?
Yes, but not to boot from I believe ...
Also LAN and USB traffic go together on this board, so one will slow the other down.
Not an issue for you I guess, as you did not mention LAN
How many USB sockets does it have?
Two.

Might be asking a bit much of the PI at this stage
Is it too advanced for me?

The RPi Foundation hope it will have the same sort of effect as the BBC micro did back in the day. It will get kids into programming.Sylvander wrote:Yes, but what can I do with it if I buy one?
You can start by learning Python!
My System:Arch-Arm on RPi!

Thanks...I have the yellow and two other plugs, which I believe are audio.JohnMurga wrote: What the PI has : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composite_video
Guess I'll get on the waiting list and watch the progress here.
Yup, you can get a headphone jack to twin RCA cable to connect those up too, should also be a couple of bucks.tlchost wrote:Thanks...I have the yellow and two other plugs, which I believe are audio.JohnMurga wrote: What the PI has : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composite_video

Possible issues on old TV may be around PAL/NTSC ...
So the picture might come up in black and white when you boot ...
Until you fix it
Anyway, here is the reason why despite our best efforts I suspect most of use won't see our PIs for a while :

The Rpi team seem to be recovering from last nights reported pub visit
Here are the FAQS
Their website is still not properly up and they are launching a new one
http://elinux.org/R-Pi_FAQ
One thing you might like is the Gert board for controlling stuff from the Pi board
Python should be in most series 5 devx
Python is a good language because it was named after Monty Python
Here for no real reason is one of the Pythons inspiration
(Spike Milligan) dressed as a viking blowing raspberries . . .
