Wireless Connection in 2.14

Hi I am trying out 2.14 top10 on this old (circa2001) lappy ,Compaq Evo N400c (PIII 850 Mhz, 256Mb RAM).
When I come to connect to our wireless network using my Edimax 7108Pcg Pcmia card ,using the module Rt61,I always get a message
"no network found".
However when I insert another version of Puppy ,say Wary 5.1.1, this connects correctly using the same module.
Is there any reason for this or is it just a case of 2.14 unable to recognise the wireless card?
