I hate to do this to you, but after installing a second browser (I now have 2) the browser selection seems to have the same problem.
After choosing one, that seems to be the only one that is listed when you click on Browser selection.
The other browser does not show up in the list of selections.

Works on Puppy precise RC-1 and beta7, but doesn't work with nopae kernel.

3. 'xwin' to get graphical desktop.

rt2800usb

#803 Post by sszindian »

Been holding off on this hoping to find a configuration that would work before the new release, even tried installing two different frisbee configs with no luck.

rt2800usb
LinksysAE1000

WiFi (wlan0) has NOT worked since 5.2.60 version where it setup without any problem!

Everything appears to setup properly but it just doesn't make the final connection.

Latest... Exprimo, Slacko-using frisbee both setup wlan0 without a problem in a matter of minutes on the same system.

Precise Puppy RC2 is out, see blog announcement:

http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=03057

I missed a couple of the things above, such as updated defaults-chooser -- that will go into the 5.4-final.

Downloaded from your site - I have noticed recently that Ibibilo site is very slow - Your site was approx 2 and 1/2 times faster.

Booted live cd and looked it over - looks good - Next will do full install to ext4 partition and advise any problems.

Hope you can get a final soon and post to Distrowatch. Note that Puppy is number 12 - Need a boost to get us back in top ten

Thanks for all your hard work.

Personally, I don't care for the wallpaper nor icons, but things working a lot better now even on mid-aged kit.
Opera still not appearing as a .pet, in the PPM but the d/l fromhttp://www.opera.com using DEB(Other) works immediately with default FP - great innovation. Unfortunately, Opera appears in the Utility menu sub-division rather than Internet, but it also starts from the Console.
Interesting: previous RC ran a lot slower on better kit, but this one runs nicely on old technology.
Spoilt for choice now - Slackos & Carolinae as well as Luppies all seem to be at advanced stages of development.
Would be nice if efforts could now return to Racy, which seems to be in favour with everyone and the RPi , which has v.B available now with 512Mb.

It's working okay so far, highlighting and copying text from one
document to another is a little difficult because the highlighted text
doesn't show as highlighted at first but is once you click on the
destination document.
I couldn't find the report-video file in /tmp/root, changed the
wallpaper to one a little easier on the eyes.
I still need to add applications from ppm.

EDIT:I added several applications in ppm with no problems,
kdegames,vlc,neverputt, and audacious.

Looking good :)

a note to packagers,

the directories '/lib/i386-linux-gnu' and '/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu' are actually symlinks to the '/lib/' and '/usr/lib' directories. This doesn't cause a problem with .pets but does with .sfs packages,. So when making an .sfs you will need to move the contents of eg: '/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu' to '/usr/lib'.. and the same for '/lib'

Fresh (no update) frugal of RC2 on hard drive.
Just want to comment on initial testing right now.

First, the live CD worked ok and I had little difficulty
connecting wireless using SNS.

Did 5 bootups after frugal install and all five
came up connected ok. Only one bootup came
up (mostly) black screen requiring Restarting X.

So the issues I've had in recent Betas and RC1
seem to be improved considerably.

Would it be disadvantageous in some way to
simply invoke a Restart X server right before
ending the startup process?

I am discovering what the cognoscenti probably already know that all wifi dongles are not born equal. I have the latest HAMA rt2800usb also. It's a twin aerial, twin channel 300Mps device and it doesn't work on my systems with my router, either. Those are used on much later systems, including tablets and smart TVs. You may need to swap the dongle for an older 150Mps device, but it's all a question of trial and error. Like everything else in this game, you need boxloads of kit to find winning combinations.
