DoomRL

#1 Post by Zeph3r »

DoomRL is a 'roguelike' version of Doom and is really cool if you ask me.

It even has graphics now!

I'm not so good at descriptions, so here's the site ==> http://doom.chaosforge.org/ <==

I thought i would make a little guide for running this on puppy linux :D (spent the better part of a day figuring it out)

I tested this on P528.

First download DoomRL from the site. (i used the small version)

DoomRL's first dep is SDL

I had installed SDL 1.2.13 but i think you can use anything above 1.2.10

SDL Libs i used ==> http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pet_packages-4/ <== there are 3 packages

Next is libpng.so.3

You can get this by making a link from libpng12 in /lib to /usr/lib and naming it libpng.so.3

Next you need Timitidy, a midi player.

The game's sounds are in midi format.

DL it from here ==> http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=32611 <==

Thanks to Pizzasgood for the Timitidy package.

DoomRL looks for the Timitidy config in /etc/timidity/timidity.cfg so copy it from /usr/share/timidity (you will have to make new folder in /etc)

Now run the game from the terminal.

I like to put the game files in /mnt/home/Apps/DoomRL but you can put them anywhere.

The terminal output will let you know if you have any problems, i hope you will not :?

P.S. This is my first post so go easy on me ok :wink:
