Hi,
i installed a java application on my Puppy 5.2.8 Lucid but I had to manually create the menu item.

I make a .desktop file and then run fixemenus.

After the run, 3 groups on my menu disappeared: Fun, Help and Shutdown!

And the icons on my systray also!

What happened? How can i "go back" this?

Thanks.

Hi nsaraiva,

I am not sure what happened... I run Wary Puppy but I am assuming you can do the following in Lucid Puppy:

If you are running Joe's Window Manager as your desktop, open ROX-Filer and look for two hidden files in your root directory: .jwmrc (and) .jwmrc-previous This second file is a backup file for the menus in JWM. Rename this second file to .jwmrc and save it. This will overwrite your current .jwmrc file. Then go to Desktop -->JWM Configuration and click on the button that says to "Restart JWM" Hopefully your desktop will refresh and your menu will restore. Re-boot your computer after this, and you should get your tray icons back. Also, Joe's Window Manager will automatically create a new backup file after the re-boot.

Hope this helps,
Monsie

In my view...
The easy way...
Or should I say the "dummies" way? [It's the method I'd use]
Is to use a 2nd Puppy [I have 6 in use]...
To restore a recently made backup copy of the pupsave file. [If using a pupsave]
I use Xfe to do the work.

If you are using a full install...
You should have made backups of the Puppy folder/file system.
And you restore all of those.

This would fix all/any software problems introduced by unfortunate changes. Very Happy

Also try running `fixmenus` again. Occasionally it doesn't seem to work properly, in which case you just need to do this.

Posting the .desktop file might help. Wink
