For years I have ben using iTunes on my Mac to convert my Audio CD's to MP3 format. With iTunes I can quickly change tags if need be. What tool(s) should I be using in Puppy Linux seeing that I am spending a lot of time in Puppy recently.

For years I've been using Pcdripper to convert CDs to mp3. There is also Menu -> Multimedia -> Asunder.

Until recently there wasn't a ready-made way to edit the tags in Puppy, but now Pmusic makes it easy. See this thread for details.

I used Asunder for a while and found it very easy to use and the quality of the resulting mp3 files was good, but discovered that when converting to the lowest quality mp3 settings it did not seem to go as far as I wanted it to.

I convert audio books to mp3 so I can listen to them on my mp3 player while I work. I've found that I can't tell any difference between a mp3 file of 32 kbps mono and the original CD it was converted from, so I convert all audio books to 32 kbps mono, to put more books on my mp3 player. It's been a while, but if I remember right, Asunder's lowest quality mp3 setting resulted in files that were about twice as big as Pcdripper gave when set to 32 kbps mono, and Asunder left the files in stereo, which is pointless for an audio book.
