My earlier post was from work, running W2K, guess what, this post is from home running Puppy of the USB stick I just installed it to 5 minutes ago.... Whoooaaaaa

Awhile ago, maybe a few years ago, Apple advertised the Power Apple or something, and boasted that you could unpack the machine and be surfing the net within 20 minutes.... Well I booted Puppy from CD, installed it onto my japawashi USB stick, rebooted from the USB stick, set up my internet connection and posted this reply in under 15 minutes....

While rocking my 2 month old baby girl in my left arm....

I will certainly try doing the barebones Puppy or unleashed, and building my own flavour of Puppy, I just like Thunderbird and Firefox, because I'm very familiar with them.

Thanks for all the replies. I was of the Linux bandwagon for a few months now, but Puppy re-inspired me.

Have helped on a Linux project in South Africa called the Freedom Toaster, run by the Shuttleworth foundation. I named the machine...Smile More can be seen about it at www.freedomtoaster.org. Machine that burns free copies of many Linux distro's. May I have them put Puppy on there?

You will be happy to know that Barry says, "Yep - seems cool" Cool
In fact your project is so kewl I want to know how we get one for London and . . .

(Fear not gentle readers - No puppys were harmed - this is another toast - CHEERS)

Ok, I have contacted someone at the Shuttlworth Foundation, and I'll have to wait for their reply, to see what their take is on distributing the ISO on the toasters.

Also I have mentioned your request for a toaster in London, while I know that the toasters in SA are all sponsored by the Shuttleworth foundation, I don't know if they will do that for London. They might however supply you with all the software that controls the Toaster though. I know that it's freely available on the net. Will find out where, and post the link if you're interrested.

Sure I am interested Smile

Toast is the best thing since sliced bread

Also we have many possible locations: The stock exchange (maybe not), The Mayors Office, tube stations, London zoo (by the penguins) The national Gallery in Trafalgar Square have a computer room (getting it into to a high profile central London spreads it world wide tourist side)

In fact I would like to see it in Tate Modern (as a work of Art) or the science museum or the birth of the "mobile toaster" might be upon us . . .

Have penguin - will travel
Cool

Smile The plans for toasties/toasters are on their site. Who is gonna build one?

In a managed situation, you could charge a £1 and put the money back into your project . . .
