Now, in your lifetime, our world has changed such that we are in a completely different world: CPU, RAM, LAN speeds, Internet access and Internet speed has transformed everything as we used to know it!

I don't know of a single user who has concerns about whether a distro is 128MB or 160MB or etc. (Don't take my work for it, look at the Distrowatch download numbers on those massive distros.) The name of the game is changed to "ubiquitous functionality". This is seen as you look at Apple/Microsoft/top-5 Linux distros/xPhones/xPads. No matter what a user has in front of them, they are in need of about the same tools and the same communication needs; both LAN and Internet over telco, cable, or cell networks.

The LAN and Internet are the means in which we get, use, and share information.

Puppy traditionally NEVER wanted to fully address the LAN needs. One way of looking at this is that It took a very impractical approach by being a selfish, rather one-sided, user in that it would hoard the information it finds, while never sharing it with its local neighbors. This is remotely similar to what Microsoft was sued for on several occasion in the past 2 decades in what it was doing with protocol manipulations. in fact one such suit has had a definite impact on one of Linux's subsystems; namely, LAN protocols. Microsoft has made definite contributions to SAMBA advancements such that Linux can integrate easily with Microsoft and Apple and the latest LAN devices.

Kirk was the first to build SAMBA into his Puppy distro systems. Later, 3 years ago, additionally, he put together the first "modern" V3.5 SAMBA as a PET to be added to his FATDOG distro. His intelligence although not expressed openly, was that 64bit PCs came with 1GB RAM and LAN built into the motherboards.

TaZoC came along in 2011 and built modern SAMBA directly into his 64bit implementation such that users didn't have to hunt around or use PPM to get the benefits of modern SAMBA. In fact, TaZoC introduced several more very interesting approaches to subsystems in his 64bit Puppy, called LightHouse64, which may never be fully appreciated because his illness has taken him from our community and there is no replacement to further the innovation he started. Nevertheless, what is of significant from his distro, is that if the user did NOTHING, his PC would look and operate the same as 98% if the PCs of the world. He brought ubiquity to PUPPY via his distro.

Today, FATSLACKO now has stepped forward and produced a comparable distro in 32bit underwear.

Thanks again for all 01Micko has done to improve our LAN lives. And, Thanks to everyone who has tested this. We all benefit from this introduction into the 32bit turf.
