pppoe doesn't work in slacko533 (solved) Subject description: solved |
|
Originally, I must have posted this message in the wrong thread, so reposting it here.
A linux novice here, unsuccessfully trying to get slacko533 online via pppoe. Done a reasonable research digging through this forum, seem to vaguely understand the underlying problem, but whatever tip I apply (provide my own DNS numbers, let it resolve them on its own, leave it as it is, remove the symlinks), nothing works - this is what inevitably comes out:
.....TIMED OUT
/usr/sbin/pppoe-start: line 193: 18024 Treminated $CONNECT "$@" > /dev/null 2>&1
and
pppoe-status: Link is down (can't read pppoe PID file /var/run/pppoe.conf-pppoe.pid.pppoe)
Your help is desperately needed - thank you in advance.

I posted an answer there.

But anyway.
"" A linux novice here,

Why use that?????
Why not Frisbee.....for wireless.????
Or Network wizard for ethernet.
This is 4 wireless but basically the same technique...from Catdude.

Just select Ethernet >>> for cable.
Select >> Test
Select >>> Auto DHCP
Chris.

Anikin, if your problem is solved, please tell us what you did to solve it.
Otherwise this thread is a useless waste if time for everyone but you.

Flash,
please, have a look at this one:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=626640#626640
in a nutshell, I applied a remedy provided by wuwei in this thread:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=483239#483239
and it did the magic. Taking this opportunity, I would like to thank wuwei for his great solution. I'm a novice here and am frantically researching this issue further. My idea is when I have a more or less clear grasp of it, I am going to post my findings in a forum in my native language. Where I live pppoe is not that uncommon and innocent noobs like myself shouldn't be needlessly suffering
