You need to be very careful about where you obtain drivers from, and what Puppy version/kernel version those drivers are compatible with.

buford wrote:... atmelwlan-3.4.1.1.tar.gz
That's the Atmel AT765XXx wifi drivers I contributed for Puppy version 1.0.4 way back in 2005!!
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Wifi/drivers-for-Puppy-1/
Instructions for this driver package's use and compatiblity are at the same location -
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Wifi/drivers- ... lan_README

Puppy 5.2.8 already contains a compatible driver for your wifi device - at76c50x-usb

If this (standard) driver doesn't work, you should do some troubleshooting - check the output of "dmesg".

Your dmesg results look 100% healthy.
If nothing else, this demonstrates how our Puppy community, particularly new users, need to concentrate on configuration rather than assuming that a "new" or "different" driver will be a convenient cure-all.

Puppy has automatically loaded the zd1211rw wifi driver. So obviously there's no need to forcibly load the Atmel wifi driver - it's the wrong driver! Are you sure you have an SMC2662W? Do you maybe have the "SMCWUSB-G" wifi dongle instead?

The zd1211rw driver has successfully created a network interface; wlan0. So the driver is at least working in a basic sense.

Here you can see that your interface has tried to associate with 2 different wifi access points, then disconnected, probably because it could not establish encryption with these access points.
Then your interface successfully associates with wifi access point 00:0f:b5:1f:de:e0.

Maybe you just need to configure your wifi connection properly. You're using the full Network Wizard, right?
Don't use the "Simple Network Setup".

Also, make sure you know exactly what type of encryption your Wifi router is using - WEP, WPA, or WPA2. Sometimes one form of WPA encryption will work with your wifi device, when the other won't. To change the encryption-type of your router, you need to get into the router's administrative setup - this is usually done with a browser interface from an ethernet-connected computer.

It's difficult to diagnose your dmesg results when I don't know what your hardware setup is.

It appears that the necessary firmware is not available. Puppy definitely contains the correct firmware - but it's compressed at /lib/modules/all-firmware
and I think the configuration file at /etc/modules has an error.
Here's a quick fix - just install the firmware dotpet I now attach. Then reboot.

Yes, it uses the new ath9k_htc driver, not available in Puppy Lucid, but available from Slacko onwards.
