Hello

Here's what I did.

1. Clean install of Lucid 528 on Acer Aspire One
2. Installed Wbar from repository
3. Opened ~/.xinitrc in Abiword but didn't modify anything
4. Installed wbarcc-07.pet to customise bar
5. Positioned bar to the left
6. Restarted X because the bar wasn't showing

I now cannot restart X, despite running xorgwizard. This is what I get.

Code:
#xwin
Starting X, specs in /etc/X11/org.conf, startup apps /root/.xinitrc...
Exited from X. Type [fvmwm95:jwm] to restart X ([ ] mean optional).

Please help me!

Hi SuperBob, welcome to Puppy.

Boot Pup: puppy pfix=ram then try'n copy a fresh .xinitrc to your install..

The second ya see the Pup bootsplash, type p to get started..

If it returns your desktop we can probably work the rest out..

Only thing you should need for Wbar is the Wbar package, installed from Puppy Package Manager.

Unfortunately the desktop didn't come up.
So I booted from a Live USB and copied the .xinitrc to sda1/root and that solved it.
I removed and reinstalled wbar and am now fine.

Thank you for your help.

You're probably right, but the wiki says otherwise. Also, I want to have my wbar on the left side of the screen and the in-built set up doesn't offer that, unless I am mistaken.

Bob- you should be able to -vbar -pos left. See here.... the file you adjust is /root/Startup/wstart.

A brief explanation of what does what can be found by typing: wbar --help in a console..

Thanks, that worked!
I had seen that stuff but the wbar page doesn't say in which file you're meant to modify these settings, which lost me.

hi & welcome, superbob

Bits and pieces of wbar tips are scattered throughout the pldf, like this one of mine, as well as many by CatDude and others - for me wbar is a very robust launcher that works in a vast variety of window managers (of course parameters make it very adaptable, so Smile

dotpets that change your .xinitrc Neutral - another place to find the originals is /initrd/pup_ro2 (if you like, it's an easy way to access the pup sfs without going through the pfix=ram deal)
