GtkSamba is a utility to set up a samba server (basically it edits smb.conf)
puppy does not include a samba server, so this app has no reason to be included and the presence of this app will only lead to frustration from users thinking that they can set up a server since the app is there.
emphasis added after the thread was moved from "bug" to "suggestion"
a samba server allows you to share your directories to others on a windows network.
It is different from a samba client, which allows you to access directories on other computers on a windows network.
That part is available in puppy (that's the samba package) and works great using LinNeighborhood (which is just a gui on top of the command line programs provided by the samba package, such as smbmount)
one could argue about the usefulness of a samba server in puppy anyway.
A "poor man's" replacement to having a samba server would be to have an TFP server since you can access an FTP server from any windows machine usingthe browser.
I don;t know if puppy has an FTP server yet, it's on my list of things to check!

gtkftpd
gtkftpd is available via pupget. Once it is installed you start it from the ghttpd directory. I have it installed but am not using it yet. I like your idea of using it basically to replace samba. Let us know how it works for you.
