In Slacko 5.3.3 and the previous version, the shutdown menu - poweroff, restart Xserver and reboot - do not respond. The commands for these in the terminal also do not work. The MD5 checksum is OK. Then what went wrong ?

Yes! Tried all such as Lupu, Lucid and all earlier versions ; all shut down quite obediently!

Without knowing the hardware you are using (computer) hard to give any useful advice.
