Subject description: define JAVACMD, JAVA_BINDIR, JAVA_HOME or PATH

With my internet connectivity now sorted out (a whole different issue under a different topic) I decided to install some packages using the Puppy Package Manager.

I saw the freemind application and since I'm busy with a mindmap that I've been working on for a long time and no longer have the app, I decided to download & install it. The package manager apparently successfully installed:

freemind_0.9.0~rc6+dfsg
openjdk-6-jre_6b18-1.8
openjdk-6-jre-headless_6b18-1.8
openjdk-6-jre-lib_6b18-1.8

as well as other dependencies and reported no further missing packages or dependencies. I can however not run freemind because it keeps giving the following error:

ERROR: Couldn't find a java virtual machine,
define JAVACMD, JAVA_BINDIR, JAVA_HOME or PATH.
See the manpage of freemind(1) for details.
Script completed hit RETURN to close window.

By the way, I checked the manpage and it doesn't provide much help.

I don't know what to do since I can see openjdk was in fact installed as some of the dependent packages. I have no clue what is meant by defining JAVACMD, JAVA_BINDIR, JAVA_HOME or PATH nor do I know how to do it or what it represents. Kinda don't know much about Java. Always thought is was merely a browser plugin for Java based content.

Please help!

Hi Kees- can you make heads or tails here? Pfind (menu >> filesystem) should allow you to locate the jdk/jre PATH..

$HOME/.freemind/freemindrc on 5.28 is in your /root/.freemind dir.. Clk the eye on the ROX menu bar to reveal it..

Hi Semme

I'm not sure what I was supposed to find with the search for jdk/jre in Pfind. All I got, obviously, was a lot of files containing either jdk or jre showing where they are (i.e. the path - lowercase)

When I clicked on the eye in ROX I found that I do not have a .freemind dir in root.

Hi Semme

Thanks for the help. I just uninstall the whole effort together with its dependent packages etc. and re-installed it after which it worked just fine.
