Hello,
I'm new here and just have one question, will puppy linux work on my laptop? I know that it should run with no problem speed wise but what I'm interested in is weather it will work for my wireless chip set which is broadcom DM4318. I searched the forum first for an answer but they all relate to DM43XX with the XX's being different models but I couldn't find 18 in there and in ubuntu there are different drivers for different series. Also it would be nice to know if my touch screen would work. Smile

Thanks,
Fil

The only way to really know is to try some Puppy version and see what works.
Lucid Puppy 528.005
Slacko Puppy 5.3.3
Wary Puppy 5.3
etc...

You can burn Puppy to a CD and boot with the CD, to try it out. 100% safe to use. Does nothing to computer, but put a save file on it, if you choose to make one.

If you have problems, post in beginners section of the forum and you will be helped.

That's bcm4318 driver; card is dw1370 probably.

Tried it with slacko 5.3.3 on a latitude d810.

Connected using the wireless wizard or frisbee.

Wpa encryption.

The cf28 has a pentium M processor. If yours has a 400mhz
fsb, avoid the slacko with pae kernel; it won't boot.

Is this an inbuilt wireless card or pcmcia card?

Probably, and please tell me which ones and where you got them.
I have two Laptops here with BCM4300 Dual band cards and I'm using the XP drivers (which don't give the full power of the chip)

VEN_14E4&DEV_4350 Dual band single chip Wireless N

I use Luicid 5.28 based on Ubuntu binaries
One has a 400fsb 2.5Ghz P4 M and the other is a 2.13Ghz T43P Thinkpad. Both work OK.

It doesn't need drivers installed.
It will show up in the network wizard as "wlano wireless
b43 pcmcia"
If it doesn't show, click "load modules" and find b43 pcmcia.

Working fine on Wary5.3 and Slacko for me.
